Job summary

Qualifications

  • Proficient in CAD software and ability to model moderately complex parts; proficient in engineering tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products.
  • Model complex parts using CAD tools as an expert.
  • Collaborate in design reviews and provide feedback on mechanical designs.
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify requirements.
  • Estimate tooling, part cost and design time for basic designs.
  • Communicate with vendors producing custom mechanical parts.
  • Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeMechanical Engineer 2at Garmin's location in Cary, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex mechanical solutions, testing and validating, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to mass production within the Outdoor product category.

Essential Functions
  • Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products
  • Model complex parts as an expert CAD user
  • Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs
  • Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements
  • Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs
  • Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required
  • Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems
  • Possess knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.
  • Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering AND1 year relevant experienceORan equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of relevant engineering tools
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous work experience in design, particularly for consumer products
  • Mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experience
  • Experience using SolidWorks CAD or OnShape
  • A passion for the Outdoors
