Job description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2 in Tucson, AZ. The work will be done onsite full time at the Tucson Mining Center, primarily on first shift from 7:00 AM–3:00 PM. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. The role may require up to 25% domestic travel. Compensation is up to $38/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer 2 will support the Engine Installation and Cooling team for large mining and off-highway trucks, designing and integrating engine and cooling components and subsystems into machine platforms. The role includes mechanical design of air intake systems, cooling structures, exhaust components, fuel lines, tube and hose routings, fabricated steel structures, and component mounting systems. This position combines Creo-based 3D design, product development, troubleshooting, drawing updates, and cross-functional engineering collaboration in both office and factory environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and modify mechanical components and integrated systems supporting engine installation and cooling applications.
  • Perform Creo (Pro/E) 3D modeling, support engineering change processes, and coordinate updates to drawings and engineering notices.
  • Design and integrate tube/hose routings, fabricated steel structures, mounting systems, and non-metallic components.
  • Investigate equipment and factory issues, perform root-cause analysis and troubleshooting, and implement lessons learned from field history.
  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, factory operations, suppliers, and other system teams to deliver production-ready designs within project timelines.
  • Apply mechanical engineering principles including fluid mechanics, machine design, strength of materials, structural fatigue, kinematics, and heat transfer.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; internships may count toward the experience requirement. A Master’s degree is accepted but does not eliminate the two-year experience requirement.
  • Relevant backgrounds may include Mechanical/Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or Validation Engineering.
  • Proficiency with Creo (Pro/E) 3D modeling and simulation tools, or an equivalent CAD platform.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical drawings, standards, and specifications.
  • Product-development experience involving product design, validation testing, and/or simulation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience developing mechanical concepts and solving engineering problems through root-cause analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work with urgency, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong written/verbal communication, analytical, problem-solving, presentation, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Teamcenter or an equivalent engineering release/workflow management system.
  • Experience performing Creo Simulate analysis or equivalent mechanical simulation/analysis.
  • Experience designing components such as tube/hose routings, fabricated steel structures, mounting systems, cooling components, or engine-related mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, structural fatigue, strength of materials, and machine design.
  • Ability to work independently, manage priorities efficiently, and coordinate effectively with suppliers and manufacturing teams.
Why This Role?

This position offers an opportunity to work directly on the mechanical design and integration of engine and cooling systems for large mining and off-highway equipment. Engineers will gain hands-on exposure to complex mechanical systems, factory operations, suppliers, product development, and cross-functional engineering while working on equipment used in demanding real-world applications. It is an excellent opportunity to strengthen skills in Creo design, mechanical integration, troubleshooting, and production implementation within a global engineering environment.
