Job summary

Garmin in Salem, OR is seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer 2 to design and test avionics components as part of a cross-disciplinary project team. You will contribute from concept through basic testing toward mass production, coordinating with vendors for custom parts and ensuring design integrity.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Aerospace engineering and at least 1 year of relevant experience, with strong CAD skills and knowledge of manufacturing methods.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering with GPA 3.0 or higher.
• 1 year relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and modeling moderately complex parts.

Responsibilities

• Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products.
• Model complex parts as an expert CAD user.
• Collaborate and add value through design reviews, providing comments on mechanical designs.
• Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify design requirements.
• Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs.
• Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required.
• Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems.
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance.

Overview

We are seeking a full-timeMechanical Engineer 2for Garmin's Salem, OR location. In this role, you will be responsible for component design and testing of avionics as part of a project team working with cross-disciplinary teams, completing technology explorations and/or delivering to mass production.

Essential Functions

• Complete moderately complex mechanical designs for Garmin or OEM products
• Model complex parts as an expert CAD user
• Collaborate and add value through participation in design reviews, providing comments and suggestions on mechanical engineering designs
• Mockup and test basic mechanical systems to verify compliance with design requirements
• Make estimates on tooling, part cost and design time for basic mechanical designs
• Communicate effectively with vendors that produce custom mechanical parts as required
• Specify test plans to validate moderately complex systems
• Possess knowledge of injection modeling, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining processes, etc.
• Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preferred part materials for basic part production and performance

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND1 year relevant experienceORan equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Demonstrates knowledge of CAD software and the ability to model moderately complex parts
• Demonstrates proficient knowledge and utilization of relevant engineering tools

Desired Qualifications

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
• Previous work experience in component design, particularly for electronics products
• Mechanical systems repair or troubleshooting experience
• Experience using OnShape, SolidWorks or other CAD software
