Job summary

EnerSys in Warrensburg, MO seeks a design engineer to create and prototype industrial electronic enclosures for harsh environments, delivering innovative concepts and practical tooling.

You will lead tooling fabrication, installation, integration, and testing, while applying Lean, 5S, and Kaizen to improve processes and manage multiple projects. A Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years design experience is preferred.

Job Purpose

This position requires creativity and innovation to propose, prototype, and deliver new concepts and designs related to industrial electronic enclosures in harsh environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and oversee the fabrication of production tooling as required for company products.
  • Direct installation, integration, and operational testing of mechanical and/or electronic equipment
  • Debug, problem solve current and new processes.
  • Evaluate and improve on processes in manufacturing systems. This includes undertaking Lean Manufacturing, 5s, and Kaizen projects.
  • Generates project plans, performs budget maintenance, and resource coordination for assigned projects.
  • Continual development and implementation of process improvements.
  • Research, design, procure, implement, test, and monitor new systems, technologies, and equipment.
  • Manage several projects at one time.
  • Create and maintain assembly drawings, component drawings, packaging drawings & bills of material
  • Helps maintain outsourced component designsand quotes .

  • JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of Tool and Die practices.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing workflow, including planning activities
  • Understand basic electrical and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to make technical presentations internally and to customers.
  • Finite Element Analysis preferred.
  • 3D-CAD software, SolidWorks Preferred.
  • Strong computer skills including Solid Modeling, word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work without close supervision
  • Must be able to work with Engineering team to define and document requirements, address technical concerns and provide project status.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 2 years design engineering experience is preferred.
  • ISO experience preferred.
