Job summary

Tesla Laboratories is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support NAVFAC NW Design Division projects. You will design HVAC and plumbing systems for large-scale builds, apply UFCs, and use AutoCAD and Revit to deliver drawings and models.

The role requires coordinating with government clients, tracking budgets and schedules, and producing technical dashboards and briefs for project teams. A 4-year engineering degree and 6+ years of relevant design experience are expected; a P.E. license is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Engineering college (4-year degree minimum).
  • Minimum of 6 years of Design Management and/or Design experience performing the listed tasks.
  • U.S. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in mechanical discipline highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC and plumbing systems for large construction/renovation projects with high budgets.

Requirements

Tesla Laboratories is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support Design Technical Support (DTS) services for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Northwest (NAVFAC NW), Planning Design and Construction Directorate, Design Division (PDC4). This position supports the existing NAVFAC workforce and provides increased capability for Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build projects and associated efforts undertaken by NAVFAC

Perform mechanical engineering tasks, including:

Design heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and plumbing systems for new construction and renovation projects with construction costs exceeding $20M, or design petroleum, oil, and lubricant (POL) systems on projects with construction amounts exceeding $10M.

Design a wide variety of HVAC systems/equipment, including variable primary chilled water systems, air-cooled chillers, water-cooled chillers, split D-X, unitary, DOAS, VAV, HVAC controls, and VRF systems.

Design a wide variety of plumbing systems, including domestic cold and hot water heating systems, compressed air, and medical gas systems.

Apply DoD Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and use AutoCAD 2022 and Revit 2021.

In addition, the Mechanical Engineer will:

Coordinate with team members to execute project scope, create/manage schedules, and track/brief budget execution in conformance with project and customer requirements.

Create project technical dashboard reports via Microsoft software (Power BI, Project, Excel, etc.).

Facilitate the minimization of project delays by providing technical reviews and recommendations within predetermined timeframes.

Research codes, guidance, policies, procedures, processes, criteria, and federal laws/regulations, and provide sound technical recommendations both verbally and in writing.

Apply innovative technical principles, practices, and theories to the resolution of technical issues.

Coordinate with the Government client, NAVFAC team members, leadership, project stakeholders, and various regulatory agencies.

Coordinate and facilitate meetings, make recommendations based on project requirements, coordinate workflow processes, schedule/coordinate Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs), and effectively communicate findings to project personnel; provide written minutes for all meetings.

Review technical reports, RFIs, designs, design changes (design-build and design-bid-build), project deliverables, submittals, and cost proposals from contractors to ensure compliance with customer and RFP requirements.

Provide technical support for review of the commissioning plan, design and construction submittals, and field inspections.

Provide technical support for construction field activities.

Provide a summary of accomplishments during weekly meetings and in a prepared monthly status report.

Provide weekly reports documenting technical engineering support and quality assurance on each assigned project, including status, issues, costs, schedule, and findings/observations/recommendations/data collected.

Prepare reports, Requests for Proposals, and/or scopes of work in the required format, including applicable attachments, and participate in briefings/conferences.

Prepare and deliver briefs supported by necessary project documentation to project team members, base personnel, and senior management.

Ensure timely submission of submittals, reviews, and recommendations.

Education: Graduate of an accredited Engineering college curriculum (4-year degree minimum).

Experience: Minimum of 6 years of Design Management and/or Design experience performing the tasks described above.

It is highly desirable, but not required, to hold a current U.S. Professional Engineering (P.E.) license in the mechanical discipline.

Demonstrated knowledge of broad-based engineering principles and versed in the discipline being hired.

Sound understanding of technical concepts, principles, and practices applicable to multi-disciplined engineering project design.
