Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a mechanical engineer to perform structural dynamics and shock/ vibration analyses, including modeling, analyzing, and documenting work for internal programs and external partners. The role emphasizes teamwork and clear communication to support safety and reliability of naval reactors.

Requirements include a related bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience or a master's with at least 1 year, or current RPCO/Intermediate Reactor Training/Refueling

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in engineering/science with 2+ years of relevant experience; or Masters with 1+ year; or internal candidate with RPCO/Refueling experience.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; ability to work effectively in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural dynamics and shock/ vibration analyses.
  • Model, analyze, and document work for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop improved S&V analysis methods and support UTRS documentation.
  • Collaborate across organizations including BPMI and Electric Boat.

Job Description

Naval Nuclear Labatory (NNL) is looking for a mechanical engineer to perform structural dynamics and analysis work, primarily focused on shock and vibration (S&V). Work includes modeling, analyzing, and documenting work for various organizations across NNL and for outside organizations (e.g. BPMI, Electric Boat). Work includes developing new or improved methods for performing S&V analysis, which supports maintenance of the S&V UTRS documents. Requires strong verbal and written communication and ability to work well in a team environment.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
