Job description

Intellisense Systems, Inc. is a privately held company with a proven track record of developing and deploying innovative products that successfully operate in the most extreme environments. We are a fast‑growing Southern California technology innovator that solves tough, mission‑critical challenges for our customers in the aerospace, defense, and commercial markets. We design, develop, and manufacture advanced products for ground, maritime, and airborne applications.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development, and production of advanced sensor solutions for both ground and airborne applications. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with electro‑mechanical systems and has contributed to both prototype R&D efforts and full‑scale commercial product development.

In this role, you will be directly responsible for developing and fabricating state‑of‑the‑art technologies that power next‑generation sensor systems. You will have opportunities for career growth through increased technical leadership and/or program management responsibilities. Candidates should demonstrate creative, out‑of‑the‑box thinking, strong mechanical design capabilities, and a passion for hands‑on development and testing.

Location

This is an on‑site role located in Torrance, CA.

Responsibilities
  • Engineering tasks will range from the design of one‑off lab set‑ups to low‑mid volume production products, most often requiring designs from a systems‑level and component level.
  • Must be eager and willing to learn the fundamentals of unfamiliar technologies and concepts quickly and be comfortable working in a very dynamic setting with a number of PhD‑level scientists and engineers.
  • The ability to multi‑task and seamlessly transition between different projects is essential.
  • The majority of the engineering tasks will be performed independently as the sole responsible mechanical engineer on multidisciplinary teams, and so the selected individual should be a self‑starter and willing to take full responsibility in delivering a fully functional and quality product.
  • Well versed in a variety of manufacturing processes, including machining, rapid prototyping, injection molding, laser cutting, etc.
  • Generate detailed system/device specifications & manage specifications trade‑offs to achieve complete functioning systems.
Requirements
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of design experience in an R&D and/or product development capacity focusing on electro‑mechanical and/or optical systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in solid modeling using SolidWorks (preferred), Pro‑E, or CATIA.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and production processes (injection molding, casting) for consumer, aerospace, or military goods strongly preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical and thermal simulation packages (SolidWorks, ANSYS) preferred.
  • Capable of producing manufacturing drawings with an understanding of GD&T.
  • Creativity, strong problem‑solving skills, excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and presentation skills are essential.

Please note: Job responsibilities within our organization are dynamic. This may not be a complete list of duties. Other responsibilities and duties may be assigned by your supervisor or upper management at any time.
