Job summary

KDF Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical systems and machinery for high‑tech vacuum environments in Northern NJ. You will apply CAD/FEA/CFD tools to develop innovative, reliable solutions and support the full development cycle from concept through prototype testing.

The role emphasizes DFMA, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and robust documentation. Experience with vacuum systems and ISO/ANSI standards is valued; travel is limited.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Proficient in CAD/FEA/CFD.
  • Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 – 2018 and ANSI Y14.35 - 2014.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design.

Responsibilities

  • Design, detail, and integrate mechanical components and assemblies to deliver innovative and safe equipment solutions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design complex systems.
  • Conduct thorough analysis, simulation, and testing to validate design concepts and optimize performance and reliability.
  • Design and troubleshoot complex vacuum systems for material handling applications.
  • Create, update, and maintain company documentation for all mechanical detail drawings, sub‑assemblies, and system documentation.
  • Interface with customers, sales, and management to define system design parameters accurately.
  • Practice DFMA techniques for R&D and production of mechanical components and systems.
  • Assemble prototype mechanical systems and conduct testing of components and sub‑assemblies.
  • Perform cost‑effective engineering exercises to optimize component costs.
  • Identify and resolve component obsolescence issues efficiently.
  • Limited domestic travel, less than 10% per year.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Proficient in CAD/FEA/CFD

Preferred
  • 2 years of experience with SolidWorks
  • 2 years of design experience with automated equipment
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 and Engineering Change Notices
  • Familiarity with designing complex vacuum systems

Salary is based on experience. The compensation range for this role is $85,000 to $110,000 per year.
