Job summary

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories in Pullman, WA is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to act as a technical lead across assembly design, plastics and metal parts, tolerance studies, and thermal analysis. You will mentor interns and engineers, coordinate with Purchasing and Manufacturing, and manage high-complexity hardware projects.

The role requires a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, 6+ years in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and electronics manufacturing techniques, with expertise in heat

Qualifications

  • BS and/or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 6+ years’ experience in CAD and electronics manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical expertise in heat transfer, materials, design for manufacturability, mechanics, and electromechanical packaging.
  • Strong project management knowledge and proven leadership and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent writing, documentation, and speaking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead for mechanical engineering functions: assembly design, plastic/metal part design, tolerance studies, DM&A.
  • Coordinate efforts of engineers/technicians with Purchasing and Manufacturing.
  • Execute high-complexity hardware projects and maintain BOMs with labor/material estimates.
  • Review and improve documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing processes.
  • Write test plans, conduct design validation tests, and maintain project notebooks.
  • Mentor ME Interns, Designers, and Associate MEs.

Required Qualifications

B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

6+ years’ experience in:

  • Computer-aided design; SolidWorks preferred
  • Electronic manufacturing techniques

Technical expertise in two or more of the following areas:

  • Heat transfer/electronics cooling
  • Material selection and fabrication technologies
  • Design for manufacturability
  • Mechanics
  • Electromechanical packaging design

Working knowledge of project management processes and procedures

Demonstrated leadership and problem solving skills

Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills

Ability To Learn New Skills And Assume New Responsibilities

Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of one or more of the following:

  • Industrial plastics
  • Thermal modeling
  • Finite element analysis
  • Tool design
  • 2+ years SolidWorks experience

Pay Range Data

Mechanical Engineer: $97,700 - $144,400. Our compensation ranges are based on the responsibilities of the role. Starting pay is determined individually and considers factors such as relevant experience, skills, knowledge, and training. Candidates may be considered at different levels based on their background. As a result, pay may vary to align with the level of the role.
