Job summary

Visimid Technologies in Plano, TX is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop precision mechanical components for optical and electro-optical systems. You will use Creo Parametric and SolidWorks to drive prototype through production, with a focus on performance, manufacturability, and reliability.

The role includes NPI leadership, design for manufacturability, and collaboration across Manufacturing, Quality, and Program Management to meet cost and schedule goals.

Qualifications

  • Experience in optics, photonics, infrared systems, aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing.
  • Experience with optical or electro-optical assemblies.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Experience performing tolerance stack analyses.
  • Experience supporting machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as Infor VISUAL.
  • Experience participating in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or thermal analysis.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for optical and electro-optical systems.
  • Lead or support New Product Introduction activities from prototype through production.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations, tolerance analyses, and evaluations for performance and reliability.
  • Create complete manufacturing documentation, drawings, BOMs, and specifications with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Support design reviews and present technical solutions to engineering leadership.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering during pilot builds and production transfer.

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, testing, and continuous improvement of precision mechanical components, assemblies, and systems supporting optical, electro- optical, and infrared products. This position collaborates closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to develop innovative products from concept through production while ensuring designs meet performance, manufacturability, quality, cost, and schedule objectives.

The Mechanical Engineer supports New Product Introduction (NPI), production improvements, engineering change management, and continuous improvement initiatives in a precision manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
  • Design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies for optical and electro-optical systems using Creo Parametric and/or SolidWorks.
  • Develop innovative engineering solutions from concept through production release.
  • Perform mechanical design calculations, tolerance stack analyses, and engineering evaluations to ensure product performance and reliability.
  • Generate detailed engineering drawings utilizing GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Create complete manufacturing documentation, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and engineering specifications.
  • Support design reviews and present technical solutions to engineering leadership.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
  • Lead or support New Product Introduction activities from prototype through production.
  • Design and build functional prototypes utilizing 3D printing, machining, and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Support prototype testing, evaluation, and design validation.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering during pilot builds and production transfer activities.
  • Assist in process validation and production readiness reviews.
Manufacturing Support
  • Design products utilizing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Develop tooling, fixtures, jigs, and assembly aids to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Support production by resolving manufacturing issues and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participate in root cause investigations for product or process issues and recommend permanent corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve product quality, manufacturability, throughput, and cost.
Engineering Documentation
  • Prepare engineering change orders (ECOs), engineering change notices (ECNs), and revision documentation.
  • Maintain accurate product structures, bills of materials, and engineering data within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with company standards and configuration management requirements.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Program Management, and Purchasing throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Support supplier selection and technical evaluations for mechanical components.
  • Provide technical guidance during supplier qualification and first article inspections.
  • Assist Sales and Customer Support with technical inquiries when required.
Continuous Improvement
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze production and field performance data to improve product reliability.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives through value engineering and component standardization.
  • Participate in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and risk assessments.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct engineering research related to new technologies, materials, and manufacturing methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Authority
  • Recommend engineering design changes to improve quality, manufacturability, and performance.
  • Stop production or testing activities when product quality or safety may be compromised.
  • Approve engineering documentation within delegated authority.
  • Provide technical guidance to technicians and cross-functional project teams.
Qualifications
  • Experience in optics, photonics, infrared systems, aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing.
  • Experience with optical or electro-optical assemblies.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Experience performing tolerance stack analyses.
  • Experience supporting machining, sheet metal, injection molding, and additive manufacturing processes.
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems such as Infor VISUAL.
  • Experience participating in Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or thermal analysis.
  • Experience working in ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 environments.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and eligible to work on export-controlled programs.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of mechanical engineering experience in product development or manufacturing.
  • Experience supporting products from concept through production.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using Creo Parametric and/or SolidWorks.
  • Experience developing engineering drawings utilizing GD&T.
