Qualifications

  • Familiarity with low- to mid-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret structural and thermal analysis results.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
  • Nice to have hands-on prototype or product launch experience, battery or energy system background, and experience designing for harsh environments (vibration, corrosion, water ingress, thermal).

Responsibilities

  • Own mechanical design of battery pack components from concept through product launch.
  • Drive design decisions with systems, electrical, and analysis teams to meet requirements.
  • Identify design risks and develop prototypes to validate and mitigate issues.
  • Engage with suppliers to define specs, obtain quotes, and support development.
  • Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings with GD&T for complex assemblies.
  • Support hands-on prototype builds and collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Perform tolerance stack analyses for proper fit and function.
  • Ensure electrical isolation and environmental durability (thermal, vibration, sealing).
  • Optimize designs using analytical, numerical, and empirical methods.
  • Contribute to technical problem solving and continuous product improvement.

Mechanical Engineer – Battery Pack Design

$40-65/hr (depending on years of experience)

About the Role

Join a leading client in the advanced energy and battery technology industry as a Mechanical Engineer specializing in battery pack and module design. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity based in Novi, MI, focused on the mechanical design and development of battery pack components and sub-systems from concept through production. You will drive design decisions, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and support hands-on prototyping and manufacturing in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment. This role requires strong technical expertise, cross-functional coordination, and a passion for innovation in energy systems.

What You'll Do
  • Own mechanical design of one or more battery pack components or sub-systems from concept through product launch
