Job summary

Roanwell Corporation seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support existing products and develop new designs from concept through production. You will work with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and suppliers to resolve build problems and improve reliability, manufacturability, and cost.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, prototype development, and manufacturing support.
• Strong SolidWorks skills, including part modeling, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Working proficiency in GD&T, ASME Y14.5 drawing practices, tolerance analysis, and engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting physical parts and assemblies, using measurement tools, and collaborating with manufacturing teams.
• Experience maintaining engineering documentation, BOMs, and revision control.

Responsibilities

• Design and improve mechanical parts, acoustic housings, ruggedized enclosures, seals, and electromechanical assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Support existing products by resolving fit, tolerance, material, and assembly issues and evaluate components and supplier changes.
• Apply design for manufacturability, engineering calculations, material selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Work with production and Quality teams to investigate defects and implement corrective actions.
• Design and support procurement of fixtures, inspection gauges, tooling, and test fixtures to reduce time and rework.
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, engineering changes, and assembly instructions.
• Develop mechanical and environmental verification plans and document results.
• Collaborate with suppliers on manufacturability, tooling, and tolerances; support first-article inspections.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical and acoustic engineering resources.

Roanwell designs and manufactures communication products for demanding applications, including headsets, handsets, cable assemblies, and electromechanical assemblies. Our work combines established product lines with new-product development in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.

About the role

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support existing products and develop new mechanical designs from concept through production. You will work directly with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and suppliers to solve build problems, improve product reliability and manufacturability, and turn designs into accurate, repeatable manufacturing processes. The role includes regular work on the production floor and in prototype and test areas, with priorities balanced between production needs and development milestones.

What you will do

• Design and improve mechanical parts, acoustic housings, ruggedized enclosures, seals, and electromechanical assemblies using SolidWorks. Develop concepts, prototypes, detailed drawings, and production-ready designs.
• Support existing products by resolving fit, tolerance, material, and assembly issues. Evaluate obsolete components, supplier changes, and replacement materials while maintaining product requirements.
• Apply design for manufacturability and assembly, engineering calculations, material selection, and tolerance stack-up analysis to improve performance, reliability, and cost.
• Work alongside production and Quality teams to investigate defects, troubleshoot build problems, and implement and verify corrective actions.
• Design and support the procurement of assembly fixtures, inspection gages, tooling, and test fixtures that improve consistency and reduce assembly time and rework.
• Create and maintain controlled CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, engineering changes, and assembly instructions. Support accurate manufacturing-system BOMs and routings as applicable.
• Develop and execute mechanical and environmental verification plans with relevant specialists. Document results and support qualification testing against customer and product requirements.
• Collaborate with suppliers on manufacturability, quotations, tooling, and component tolerances. Support Quality in first-article inspections and resolving discrepancies.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical and acoustic engineering resources. Track technical tasks, communicate risks, and carry changes through release and successful production implementation.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design, prototype development, and manufacturing support, with examples of designs or improvements carried through to production.
• Strong SolidWorks skills, including part modeling, assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Working proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), ASME Y14.5 drawing practices, tolerance analysis, and engineering fundamentals.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting physical parts and assemblies, using appropriate measurement tools, and working directly with manufacturing teams.
• Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, or additive manufacturing, and the ability to evaluate supplier capabilities.
• Experience maintaining engineering documentation, BOMs, and revision control.
• Ability to investigate problems systematically, manage competing priorities, and communicate clearly with production personnel, suppliers, and technical colleagues.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with electro-acoustic products, communication equipment, ruggedized electronics, environmental seals, or precision electromechanical assemblies.
• Experience designing assembly fixtures, inspection tools, or manufacturing tooling.
• Familiarity with environmental qualification testing, including vibration, temperature, and ingress protection; MIL-STD-810 experience is useful.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or another controlled manufacturing environment, including AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems.
• Experience with root cause analysis, corrective action, design or process FMEA, and first-article inspection support.
• FEA experience and the ability to interpret simulation results alongside calculations and physical testing.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP and quality-management systems; MISys or UniPoint experience is helpful.

You will help production resolve engineering issues promptly, release accurate and usable documentation, reduce recurring defects and rework, and deliver agreed development milestones.
