Rockwell Automation is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a cross-functional engineering team in Chelmsford, MA. You will design mechanical switches and sealed enclosures for industrial devices, using Creo, GD&T practices, and DFx principles to enable high-volume production.

Responsibilities include defining tests, leading cross-functional issue resolution, and supporting design for manufacturing and assembly.

This is a Mechanical Design Engineering position to participate as a member of a cross functional Engineering team which support products for use in industrial environments. This involves supporting mechanical switches or the design of sealed enclosures containing various electronic, mechanical, or optical devices such as mechanical limit switches, optical/inductive sensors, and safety products. You will report to the Supervisor, Mechanical Continuation Engineering.

Your Responsibilities

• Knowledgeable on NEMA/Ingress Protection standards for industrial electro-mechanical devices.
• Proficient in the use of Pro/Engineer (Creo) 3D Solid Modeling CAD system
• Provide the necessary "hands-on" expertise to resolve complex, cross-functional issues regarding product functionality, assembly methods and product qualification while meeting product cost targets and schedules.
• Create innovative designs suitable for high volume production.
• Define and supervise engineering tests to qualify product designs. Job content includes some detailed documentation tasks and product maintenance.
• Familiar with SAP, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Design for Six Sigma tools.
• An understanding of multi-action tooling fabrication techniques to support complex plastic injection molded or die cast component design.
• An understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing standards, modern machining techniques and processes, and rapid prototyping methods.
• Define and supervise engineering tests to qualify designs.
• Provide the necessary "hands-on" expertise to resolve complex, cross-functional issues regarding product functionality, assembly methods and product qualification while meeting product cost targets and schedules.

The Essentials - You Will Have

• Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.
• Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
• Typically requires 0+ years of experience developing products for use in industrial, consumer or medical applications. Prior experience designing electrical connectors, optical/inductive sensors, mechanical sensors and knowledge of UL, CSA and IEC standards.
• Must be proficient in the use of a 3D Solid Modeling CAD systems and Structural/Thermal analysis tools.
• Must be capable of creating innovative designs suitable for high volume production.
• Job content includes some detailed documentation tasks and product maintenance.
• Familiar with SAP, Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and Design for Six Sigma tools.
• A good understanding of materials science relating to thermoplastic molding and plastic part design.
• A good understanding of multi-action tooling fabrication techniques to support complex plastic injection molded or die cast component design.
• A good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing standards, modern machining techniques and processes, and rapid prototyping methods
• Demonstrates creativity in developing solutions which will allow Rockwell Automation to maintain our position as an Industry leader.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus

Total Base Pay Range: $69,600 - $104,400
