Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support a well-established engineering consulting firm specializing in commercial, institutional, and industrial facility design projects. This direct hire position is located in the DMV area, with relocation assistance may be considered for the right candidate.

Responsibilities include designing HVAC and plumbing systems, performing calculations, preparing documents, and coordinating with clients and regulators throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required or equivalent industry experience.
• 3-5+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience.
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, building systems, or facility design projects.
• PE license is highly preferred but not required.

• Design HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building systems for a variety of facility projects.
• Perform engineering calculations, system layouts, and technical analyses.
• Prepare and review construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout project lifecycles.
• Support construction administration activities, including site visits and design reviews.
• Resolve technical challenges and ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Required Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer include:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
• 3-5+ years of mechanical engineering or mechanical design experience.
• Experience with HVAC, plumbing, building systems, or facility design projects.
• PE license is highly preferred but not required.
• Candidates without a PE license may be considered for a Senior Mechanical Designer title.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and construction documents.
• Stable work history with demonstrated career progression.
• Ability to travel occasionally (approximately once every 1-2 months).

Compensation for the Mechanical Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $100,000 - $130,000 (3-5 years of experience)
• Entry-Level Compensation: Starting around $80,000 for new graduates
