Job summary

Diode Dynamics is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to model automotive LED lighting components and build full lamp assemblies in SolidWorks. You’ll plan and execute ideas from planning through production, collaborating across the team to meet cosmetics, quality, and performance goals.

Responsibilities include 3D modeling of assemblies, designing brackets and housings, and integrating parts into full assemblies with BOMs.

Qualifications

  • US citizen required.
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
  • 3–5 years of SolidWorks modeling experience.
  • Experience creating parts for plastic injection and/or die cast mold.
  • Familiar with designing for 3D printing.
  • Knowledge of product development, testing and validation helpful.
  • Hands-on with product design, prototyping, assemblies, and manufacturing support.
  • Automotive lamps experience is a plus but not required.
  • Automotive enthusiasm or industry experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Design responsibility for brackets, mounting hardware, wire harnesses, housings, seals, grommets.
  • Integrate designed components into full assemblies with exploded views and BOMs.
  • Use in-house tools for validation: 3D scanning, 3D printing, water jet.
  • Create first article inspection reports for initial samples with dimensional review.
  • Collaborate with engineering for feasibility and meet customer requirements.
  • Contribute to cosmetics, quality, and performance through feedback and design opportunities.
  • Support DFM, quality improvements, BOM/weight/cost reduction, efficiency initiatives.

Job Description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at Diode Dynamics, you will model automotive LED lighting components and build full lamp assemblies in Solidworks, working from planning through production to provide designs and supporting data for all steps of the engineering and manufacturing process. You will plan, review, and execute on new product ideas, based on customer feedback, customer requirements, and your own creativity. You will become a key member of a quickly-expanding team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 3D modeling and design of components and assemblies for automotive lamps and lighting.
  • Design responsibility for brackets (sheet metal, plastic, and 3d printed), mounting hardware, wire harnesses, housings (metal and plastic), seals, and grommets.
  • Integration of designed components into full assemblies including knowledge of exploded views and BOM tables.
  • Operate in-house tools for design validation, including 3D scanning (Romer CMM), 3D printing, and water jet.
  • Complete first article inspection reports for initial tooled samples including dimensional review and validation testing.
  • Work with the engineering team for feasibility review of product ideas, with both internal and external customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with the team offering suggestions and receiving feedback from all facets of the company in order to meet end goals for cosmetics, quality, and performance.
  • Other core responsibilities include DFM focus, quality improvements, BOM/weight/cost reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives including communicating technical product status and design opportunities to management.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • BS Mechanical Engineering or related degree.
  • 3 - 5 years of SolidWorks modeling experience is required.
  • Have design experience creating parts for plastic injection and/or die cast mold.
  • Familiar with designing for 3D printing, and knowledge of 3D printing methods required
  • Knowledge of product development, testing, and validation processes is desired.
  • Must be hands-on, with experience designing products, creating prototypes, physical assemblies, and/or manufacturing support.
  • Specific knowledge of automotive lamps is a big plus, but not required.
  • Should be an automotive enthusiast or have automotive industry experience.
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, ability to complete project goals with minimal supervision with high attention to details and quality of work.
  • Highly organized and able to collaborate with a functional team to complete project requirements.
  • Strong time management skills with good planning and judgment, to accomplish goals within challenging deadlines.
  • On-site attendance required, this position is not remote. Working hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4 pm
  • Competitive salary based on experience ($60,000-90,000 per year)
