Job summary

Diode Dynamics, a leading Missouri-based manufacturer of automotive LED lighting, seeks an Electrical Engineer to drive design of high-performance lighting products. You will work in a fast-paced, expanding team to design electrical components, LED drivers, and integrated lighting systems, coordinating prototype and production phases.

You will contribute to hardware and firmware development, perform analog/digital input handling, and ensure documentation, testing, and validation align with

Qualifications

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related.
  • Experience with 12V electronics and/or automotive LED lighting systems.
  • Experience with 8-bit microprocessors and C programming language.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or similar.
  • Hands-on experience designing products, creating prototypes, and manufacturing support.
  • Experience in low EMI PCB design is preferable.
  • Automotive enthusiasm or industry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical components for new products, including LED drivers and power control systems with documentation.
  • Hardware and firmware design for embedded systems with analog and digital inputs.
  • Integrate subassemblies into prototypes and coordinate development to production release.
  • Participate in APQP meetings to confirm goals, timeline, and resources.
  • Provide feasibility feedback on ideas for cosmetics, quality, features, and performance.
  • Support DFM, BOM/cost reductions, and efficiency improvements; communicate status to management.
  • Report to the Principal Electrical Engineer.
  • Familiarity with CAD: Altium Designer; IDEs: MPLAB X, VS Code, IAR.
  • Lab tools: power supplies, oscilloscope, DMM, spectrum analyzer.

Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer at Diode Dynamics, you will design automotive LED lighting products with a focus on high performance, reliability, and integration of innovative, user-controllable features. You will plan, review, and execute on new product ideas based on customer feedback, company goals, and your own creativity. You will become a key member of a quickly-expanding team in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design responsibility for electrical components of all new products, including LED drivers, integrated LED lighting systems, and power control systems, supporting all work with documentation, including electrical specifications, schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, etc, while meeting product planning requirements and target cost.
  • Hardware and firmware design for embedded systems, utilizing analog and digital inputs with live analysis, user interaction, and serial communication.
  • Integration of subassemblies (mechanical and electrical) into prototype units; coordinate continuing product development, test, system verification, and validation, throughout the development process and into production release.
  • Contribution in APQP meetings, confirming design goals, timeline, and resource requirements for development of all new products.
  • Feasibility review of product ideas with both internal and external customers, offering suggestions and feedback for end goals for cosmetics, quality, features, and performance.
  • Other core responsibilities include DFM focus, quality improvements, BOM/cost reduction, and efficiency improvement initiatives, including communicating technical product status and design opportunities to management.
  • This position reports to the Principal Electrical Engineer.

  • Tools: MPLAB ICD 5 and PICkit 5, Saleae Logic Pro 8, Intrepid Control Systems- Vehicle Spy 3
  • Lab tools: D.C. power supply, oscilloscope, DMM, spectrum analyzer

Qualifications
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • BS Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related degree.
  • Experience with 12V electronics and/or automotive LED lighting systems.
  • Experience with 8-bit microprocessors and C programming language.
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium Designer or similar software.
  • Must be hands-on, with experience designing products, creating prototypes, physical assemblies, and/or manufacturing support.
  • Experience in low EMI PCB design is preferable.
  • Should be an automotive enthusiast or have automotive industry experience.
Abilities
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, ability to complete project goals with minimal supervision with high attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Highly organized and accurate in communication.
  • Strong time management skills with good planning and judgment, to accomplish goals within challenging deadlines.
Working Environment & Physical Job Requirements
  • Development office/Manufacturing plant environment
  • Fast-paced; 6-8 month project timelines for design, validation, and release.
  • Competitive salary based on experience ($60,000-$90,000 per year)
