Job summary

Banner Engineering seeks a Mechanical Engineer II to lead the mechanical design for robotic machine-tending applications and dedicated manufacturing cells. You will own the entire mechanical package from concept through production launch, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust automation solutions.

The role requires strong 3D CAD, GD&T, and DFx skills, with hands-on experience in fixtures, tooling, and safety considerations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience designing manufacturing equipment, automation, fixtures, or machine components.
  • Strong 3D CAD, mechanical drawing, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and design-for-manufacturing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of robotic machine-tending applications and dedicated cells.
  • Translate manufacturing-process requirements into mechanical concepts and layouts.
  • Design end-of-arm tooling, guarding, and fixtures for automation systems.
  • Create and release complete mechanical design packages with 3D models, drawings, and BOMs.
  • Coordinate fabrication, assembly, and testing with internal teams and suppliers.
  • Support installation, debugging, validation, and production handoff; manage project activity.

Position Summary

The MechanicalEngineer II is the mechanical lead for robotic machine-tending applications, dedicated multi-operationmanufacturing cells, and production fixtures supporting Banner’s manufacturing operations. This hands-onroletranslates manufacturing-process requirements into practical, reliable mechanical solutions—frominitialconceptthrough production launch.

Workingwithin a systems team,MechanicalEngineer II develops themechanical architecture for automation equipment, includingwork holding, fixtures, end-of-arm tooling, partpresentation, machine interfaces, and safeguarding. The role owns the complete mechanical design package, including 3Dmodels, drawings, GD&T, bills of material,componentselection, and build-ready documentation.

This position coordinates fabrication and assembly with internal technicians and external suppliers; providestechnical direction to designers, technicians, and vendors; andremainsactively involved through installation, debug,validation, and production handoff. The engineer also incorporates machine-safety requirements into equipment designsand contributes to risk assessments in partnership with EHS.

The ideal candidate brings strongmechanical-engineeringfundamentals, practicalautomated equipmentand fixture-design experience, and the ability to independently lead the mechanical work for assigned automation projects.

This isa technical-leadposition without direct people-managementresponsibility. Thisposition reportstothe Engineering Manager.

KeyResponsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of robotic machine-tending applications, dedicated manufacturing cells, assembly,fixtures, and productionwork holding.
  • Translatemanufacturing-processrequirements into mechanical concepts, layouts, and practical automation solutions.
  • Design end-of-arm tooling, part presentation and handling systems, machine interfaces, guarding, and supporting fixtures.
  • Create and release complete mechanical design packages, including 3D models, detailed drawings, GD&T, bills of material,componentspecifications, and assembly documentation.
  • WorkwiththeSystemsteamto integrate mechanical equipment withrobot, controls,sensor, and programming requirements.
  • Incorporatemachine-safetyrequirements into equipment designs and contribute to risk assessments with EHS andSystems Engineering.
  • Coordinate fabrication,purchasing, assembly, and modification of equipment with internal technicians, designers,vendors, and suppliers.
  • Provide technical direction and design guidance to designers, technicians, and vendors supporting assigned projects.
  • Support equipment installation, debugging, validation, and production launch; troubleshoot mechanical issues andimplement robust corrective actions.
  • Manage mechanical project activities for assigned work, including estimates, schedules, design risks, suppliercoordination, and status communication.
  • Assistincontinuous improvementprojects that increase manufacturing efficiency, product quality, ergonomics, and long-term equipment maintainability.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineeringor a closely related engineering field.
  • Approximately 5+ years of experience designing manufacturing equipment, automation, fixtures, or machine components.
  • Strong 3D CAD, mechanical-drawing, GD&T, tolerance-analysis, and design-for-manufacturing skills.
  • Experience designing robotic machine-tending equipment, including end-of-arm tooling,work holding, partpresentation, machine interfaces, and guarding.
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes, fabrication, assembly, pneumatics, vacuum systems, sensors, andcommon mechanical components.
  • Ability to create complete, build-ready mechanical design packages and coordinate fabrication with internal andexternal resources.
  • Hands-on experience supporting equipment installation, debugging, validation, and production launch.
  • Working knowledge ofmachine-safetyprinciples and ability to contribute to equipment risk assessments.

Preferred

  • Experience withcobotsand/or industrial robots in manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with selecting and integrating conveyors, linear motion, actuators, grippers, andmaterial-handlingcomponents.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position may provide technical direction to technicians or junior engineers and lead project efforts but typically does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
