Job summary

BY Recruiting is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to own a complete subsystem—from concept to production—within a multi-disciplinary team in Long Beach, CA. You will design with NX, run FEA/CFD analyses, and quickly iterate between design, analysis, and testing on real hardware.

Applicants should have 5+ years in mechanical engineering, a strong background in aerospace/EV/robotics-like products, and the ability to work on-site five days a week. Equity compensation may be available.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, from concept through production.
• Deep expertise in hull and hydrodynamics, structures, mechanisms, battery packaging, or propulsion.
• Individually architected and delivered a full mechanical subsystem from blank sheet to production.
• Background in aerospace, automotive EV, UAVs, robotics, or similar tightly integrated electromechanical products.
• Experience designing for harsh or sealed environments, sealing, corrosion, qualification testing a plus.
• Expert level CAD proficiency, NX ideal, and ability to run FEA, CFD, and hand calculations.
• Design for manufacturing experience, collaborating with machine shops and fabrication partners.
• Self starting, able to reach an 80 percent solution quickly.
• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.

Responsibilities

• Own one of five mechanical subsystems through its entire lifecycle.
• Design in CAD (NX preferred), perform FEA and CFD, and iterate between design, analysis, and test.
• Prototype, assemble, and validate hardware on the bench and in the field.
• Integrate subsystem with electrical, firmware, and software counterparts, managing cross-disciplinary interfaces.
• Collaborate with manufacturing partners and suppliers to drive mass production readiness.

Job description

• Own one of five mechanical subsystems, Hull and Hydrodynamics, Structures and Integration, Mechanisms and Actuation, Battery and Energy Storage, or Propulsion, through its entire lifecycle


• Design in CAD (NX preferred), perform FEA and CFD analysis, and iterate rapidly between design, analysis, and test without relying on dedicated analysts


• Prototype, assemble, and validate hardware on the bench and in the field


• Integrate your subsystem with electrical, firmware, and software counterparts, managing cross disciplinary interfaces directly


• Work directly with manufacturing partners and suppliers, validating components with first principles physics rather than blindly trusting supplier data, and driving your subsystem to mass production readiness

What We're Looking Fo

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, designing hardware from concept through production


• Deep expertise in one of hull and hydrodynamics, structures, mechanisms, battery packaging, or propulsion


• Individually architected and delivered a full mechanical subsystem from blank sheet to production

• Expert level CAD proficiency, NX ideal, and comfortable running your own FEA, CFD, and hand calculations rather than outsourcing to a separate analysis team


• Design for manufacturing experience, working directly with machine shops and fabrication partner


• Self starting, able to take an ambiguous problem and independently drive to an 80 percent solution in weeks, not months


• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field

Requirements

• US citizen or green card holder, US citizenship preferred for security clearance eligibility


• Able to work on-site in Long Beach, CA, five days a week

Compensation

$160,000 to $220,000 plus equity, depending on level
