Job summary

HDR, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer to coordinate the mechanical design team through schematic design to contract documents for complex commercial/institutional buildings in California.

You will ensure code compliance through agency reviews and manage document control, RFI/QA/QC processes, and coordination with other disciplines. The role requires a PE license, 6+ years in mechanical/plumbing design, and experience with software such as MS Office and Trane TRACE.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for location of the position offered.
  • Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Experience with MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through schematic design development and contract document phase.
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
  • Coordinate workload to complete the document on schedule.
  • Conduct work sessions at the project site with the Project Manager and other disciplines.
  • Review mechanical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines.
  • Write and edit mechanical specifications; select equipment and mechanical systems and devices.
  • Coordinate and assist with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, and incorporate changes into documents.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of others in Mechanical Projects.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the work of the mechanical design team through the schematic design development and contract document phase of a project.

  • Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs, and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents.
  • Provide construction contract administration as needed.
  • Conduct QA/QC on the work of other Mechanical Project Engineers, Mechanical Project Coordinators, or Mechanical CAD Technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Architectural Engineering with Mechanical emphasis.
  • Experience in Healthcare, Science and Technology, and/or Civic facilities.
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED desired but not required.
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in mechanical and plumbing system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Previous experience in mechanical system design of commercial or institutional buildings.
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license).
  • Experience in commercial or institutional facilities.
  • Computer experience using MS Office, Trane TRACE or similar software, manufacturer selection software.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.

The expected compensation range for this position is $93,000 - $132,000 and depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
