Job description

TITLE: Mechanical Engineer

POSITION OBJECTIVE: The Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of mechanical components and systems. They will be handling large projects in an industrial environment, within time and monetary constraints to help maintain and improve machine productivity, quality, and effectiveness. Must be willing to work closely with other engineering team members to facilitate an agreed upon solution to any given problems or project. Must have a working knowledge of electrical and polymer technology, to ensure that projects meet or exceed production expectations. This position requires a strong foundation in engineering principles, creative problem‑solving skills, and the ability to collaborate with cross‑functional team.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or significant work experience in field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a Mechanical Engineer.
  • Familiar with drive and PLC operational theory and/or PC network experience.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD software or similar applications.
  • Strong knowledge of automate process machinery and controls.
  • Strong electrical knowledge of process machinery to support machine improvements and implementation for new equipment.
  • Experience executing electrical mechanical designs, coordinating the build of components or machine parts with vendors and suppliers.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and product development.
  • Power distribution knowledge a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and fabrication techniques.
  • Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools.
  • Consistent, dependable attendance and willingness to accommodate non-standard work hours as necessary.
  • Capable of effectively managing job-related stress and fostering productive workplace interactions.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Mechanical Design:
    • Develop and design mechanical components, systems, and products for plastic or paper processing equipment, such as injection molding and extrusion machines.
    • Use CAD software (SolidWorks) to create detailed drawings and specifications.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and analyze design concepts to determine the best solutions.
    • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to integrate mechanical systems into overall product design.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
    • Create prototypes and conduct testing to validate design concepts and ensure performance meets specifications.
    • Analyze test results and make necessary design modifications to enhance product functionality and reliability.
  • Material and Manufacturing Processes:
    • Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes based on design requirements and cost considerations.
    • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure the efficient production of designed components.
  • Product Management:
    • Manage projects from concept through completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
    • Provide regular project updates to management and participate in project planning sessions.
    • Provide technical guidance and planning to maintenance mechanics for performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting production equipment.
    • Available for 24‑hour consultation as needed with maintenance mechanics/electricians for equipment issues.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Prepare detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, modifications based on cost‑benefit analysis and machine efficiency.
    • Present findings and progress reports to internal teams and management.
    • Keep and organize accurate records associated with projects and provide regular updates to project teams and management.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Ensure that all designs and products comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
    • Comply with plant safety regulations and good manufacturing practices.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
    • Willing to handle job stress and interact with others in the workplace.
    • Must have regular, reliable attendance and willingness to work outside the regular schedule as required.
