Job summary

Maverick Power is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design switchboards and switchgear, create BOMs, and develop manufacturing-ready drawings. You will work across electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to optimize parts and assemblies for cost and lead time.

The role requires experience in SolidWorks, electrical schematics interpretation, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with substantial experience. Expect a fast-paced environment with opportunities for growth and innovation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience.
• Experience with Solidworks modeling software.
• Experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with 7+ years experience.
• Strong problem solving & interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
• Knowledge of UL 891, UL 508A, IEEE/ANSI, and NEC/NFPA 70E standards.

Responsibilities

• Analyze project proposals and use power distribution knowledge to develop solutions.
• Design mechanical parts for switchboards and switchgear manufacturability using CAD.
• Design 3D models of switchboards.
• Generate bills of material and modify standard assemblies to suit the project requirements.
• Interact with electrical/mechanical engineering group and production team to design solutions for production.
• Interpret customer bid package drawings, electrical one-line diagrams, plan layouts and specifications.
• Supports manufacturing, testing, quality, and field service teams to ensure proper implementation of designs.
• Performs other job-related duties as necessary or assigned.

About the Role:

This position is responsible for designing custom switchboards and switchgear, creating bills of materials, developing drawings, seeking alternative components, helping production and other engineering related activities. Utilize ‘design for manufacturing’ principles to reduce system complexity and build time. Designing modular components to reduce manufacturing cost and decrease custom fabrication lead times. Your work will be exciting and varied working on projects which require knowledge of applications, electrical/electronics, mechanical, manufacturing, quality, and safety. Never a dull day, and always a challenging problem to solve in a collaborative, goal focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment, 2 years minimum.
• Experience with Solidworks modeling software.
• Experience interpreting electrical schematic drawings.
• Experience with designing and modeling parts and assemblies given basic conceptual information.
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering w/ 7 years or more experience.
• Strong problem solving & interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact with engineering and manufacturing personnel.
• Must be able to effectively utilize time.
• Working knowledge of UL 891, UL 508A, IEEE/ANSI, and NEC/NFPA 70E standards.
• Knowledge of low voltage switchboard (UL891)/ switchgear design (UL1558), installation, and use.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes governing the installation and use of low voltage switchgear.
• Ability to interpret basic electrical diagrams including front elevation, one-line, and schematic drawings.
• Excellent problem resolution skills.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to twenty-five pounds at times.

May work in various settings at the Maverick Power facilities, in offices, in multiple shops, and in commercial buildings.
