Job summary

SmallHD / Videndum seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive full lifecycle product development for professional display products. You will design systems, create 2D/3D models, prototype, test, and guide parts through production with cross‑functional teams.

The role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, collaboration, and leadership to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions on schedule and budget.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Minimum 4 years with 2D/3D design and manufacturing tools.
  • Minimum 4 years with mathematical computing, modeling, or analysis tools.
  • Minimum 3 years of project management or technical leadership.
  • Minimum 2 years in engineering leadership roles.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full lifecycle mechanical product development from design to implementation.
  • Design mechanical systems and components to meet specs.
  • Develop 2D/3D designs using CAD tools.
  • Create and evaluate prototypes throughout development.
  • Run experiments, analyze data, and support design decisions.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Identify and solve engineering challenges using effective solutions.
  • Support transition of new products to manufacturing.
  • Estimate scope, resources, timelines, and budget.
  • Prepare reports, drawings, specs, and project docs.
  • Collaborate across electrical, firmware, manufacturing, and product teams.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team. This is a hands‑on product‑development role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, designing innovative products, and taking ideas from concept through manufacturing.

In this position, you will contribute throughout the full product lifecycle—from research and development through design, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, implementation, and final product release.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform full lifecycle mechanical product development, including design, development, prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and implementation.
  • Design mechanical systems, assemblies, and components that meet product requirements and performance specifications.
  • Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed mechanical designs using 2D and 3D CAD tools.
  • Create and evaluate prototypes throughout the product-development process.
  • Conduct methodical experiments, analyze engineering data, and interpret results to support design decisions.
  • Test and evaluate theoretical and physical designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Identify engineering challenges and develop effective solutions to emerging technical problems.
  • Evaluate final product performance, reliability, quality, and overall functionality.
  • Modify and optimize designs to meet changing requirements and eliminate product or manufacturing issues.
  • Support the transition of new products from engineering development into manufacturing and production.
  • Estimate project scope, resources, timelines, and budget requirements.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, drawings, specifications, and other project documentation.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, firmware/software, manufacturing, product management, quality, and other cross‑functional teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering leadership throughout product‑development projects.
  • Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, manufacturing methods, and mechanical engineering approaches.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and applying new engineering theories and methods.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, product development, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong experience using CAD/CAM software and mechanical drafting tools.
  • Ability to develop mechanical designs using both 2D and 3D engineering software.

  • Experience conducting engineering testing, experiments, and design validation.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and translate findings into practical engineering solutions.

  • Strong project‑management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent prioritization and ability to manage multiple engineering projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate engineering documentation, reports, specifications, and drawings.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to others.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience designing mechanical components for electronics, professional video equipment, displays, consumer electronics, or similar products.
  • Experience developing products from initial concept through production.
  • Experience working closely with electrical, firmware/software, manufacturing, quality, and product-development teams.
  • Experience with prototype fabrication, testing, and design validation.
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing processes, materials, and design‑for‑manufacturing principles.
  • Previous experience working in a fast‑paced product‑development or manufacturing environment.
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience using 2D and/or 3D engineering design and manufacturing tools.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience with mathematical computing, modeling, or engineering analysis tools.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management or technical project leadership experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering leadership or technical leadership role.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements

This position operates within an engineering, product‑development, and manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this role, employees may be required to:

  • Sit or stand for extended periods while performing engineering and product‑development activities.
  • Work with prototypes, mechanical components, tools, and testing equipment.
  • Use computers and engineering software for extended periods.
  • Perform detailed visual inspections of components, assemblies, prototypes, and finished products.
  • Occasionally lift, move, or position engineering prototypes, equipment, or components.
  • Work periodically within manufacturing, production, prototype, or testing environments.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working in designated manufacturing or testing areas.
