Job description

Position Overview

MTEK is seeking a high‑caliber Mechanical Engineer to join our team at the newly opened Byron facility. The primary objective of this role is to take ownership of design and development of modular UL 2200 enclosures for Caterpillar and Cummins industrial power systems, integrating sound attenuation, fire suppression, UL142/UL2085 diesel base tanks, UL891 Switchboard, UL listed load banks, switchgear units and other essential equipment based on project requirements.

The ideal candidate will take full ownership of structural and sheet‑metal design while making critical, real‑time engineering decisions in a dynamic manufacturing environment. Success requires independence and collaboration, daily interaction with shop personnel, and compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and UL standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design & Documentation

  • Execute complex subsystem designs in SolidWorks/AutoCAD, prioritizing Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • Develop production drawings, ensuring all technical documentation is accurate and optimized for manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop and validate Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure all components meet project specifications.
  • Ensure all designs are structurally robust and compliant with state/country building codes and UL regulatory standards.
  • Able to work in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Independently manage multiple projects concurrently from the project release phase through final production.
  • Address mechanical design challenges to enhance performance, based on metrics such as weight, efficiency, cost, durability, reliability, ease of assembly, safety, etc.
  • Contribute to the team through self‑initiative, leadership, and collaboration to achieve new product development goals.
  • Participate in technical design reviews to evaluate and refine solutions.
  • Partner with external suppliers to optimize third‑party components for MTEK’s specific design and performance requirements.
  • Collaborate daily with shop managers and departments to solve real‑time engineering issues on the manufacturing floor.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • Software Proficiency: SolidWorks (3D) and AutoCAD (2D); familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Technical Insight: Experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heavy equipment (cranes, plasma tables, press brakes).
  • Soft Skills: Strong problem‑solving abilities, keen attention to detail, critical thinking skill and excellent oral/written communication skills.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Independent Operator: Capable of working with minimal supervision and taking full ownership of project timelines.
  • Critical Thinker: Demonstrated "outside the box" thinking when resolving complex thermal or structural discrepancies.
  • Collaborative: Thrives in a cross‑functional team environment, bridging the gap between engineering theory and shop‑floor reality.
Schedule & Compensation

Full‑Time (Monday‑Friday), on‑site. Will require travel to Soperton Facility minimum one day of the week.

Competitive pay based on experience, plus benefits.
