Job summary

Futures Consulting, LLC is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience to lead design of mechanical systems across diverse projects in the Mid-Atlantic region. You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the delivery of energy-efficient, constructible solutions from concept through construction.

The role emphasizes leadership, client relationship building, and collaboration with architects and contractors in an office-based role with field

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in Mechanical/Architectural Engineering or related.
  • 5+ years mechanical engineering experience, preferably in MEP consulting.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC and building systems, codes, and design practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead analysis, design, and review of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, medical gas).
  • Develop construction documents, drawings, specs, and cost estimates.
  • Apply codes and constructability principles to deliver quality solutions.
  • Utilize Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP and related tools.
  • Mentor junior engineers and manage multiple projects and schedules.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking for an opportunity to take ownership of complex projects, mentor developing engineers, and build lasting client relationships?

A respected and growing engineering firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join its team. This role offers the opportunity to lead the design of mechanical systems across a diverse portfolio of projects while collaborating with talented professionals in a supportive, technically driven environment.

From HVAC and plumbing to specialized building systems, you'll play a key role in delivering innovative, energy-efficient, and constructible engineering solutions from concept through construction.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the analysis, design, and review of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, control systems, medical gas, process piping, and fire protection.
  • Develop and review construction documents, drawings, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates.
  • Apply industry standards, building codes, and constructability principles to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Utilize Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, and other industry-standard engineering tools.
  • Perform field surveys, energy audits, energy modeling, life-cycle cost analyses, and cost estimating.
  • Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, RFIs, site observations, and design modifications.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while serving as a trusted technical resource.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate designs, resolve challenges, and keep projects on track.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while supporting their professional development.
  • Manage multiple assignments, project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience, preferably in an MEP consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, building mechanical systems, applicable codes, and engineering design practices.
  • Experience with mechanical design software, including Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, and HVAC load calculation tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality work and building long-term professional relationships.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or commitment to obtaining licensure within 12 months.
  • LEED AP accreditation or equivalent sustainability credentials.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and leading mechanical design assignments.
