Insight Global is hiring an Electrical Design Engineer to design the high-voltage electronics inside our warhead systems: the architecture that stores energy, the charge and discharge circuits that deliver it, and the safety architecture that keeps it contained until it is meant to function. You will take circuits from schematic through layout, bench test, and range test, and you will document them to a standard that survives military safety review. This is a high-energy startup, not a 9-to-5 role. Test campaigns and program deadlines bring extended hours and weekend work, and we are looking for people who want that pace.
What success looks like in this role:
- Learn the current high-voltage and firing-circuit architecture, and document its design basis, margins, and open risks.
- Own a high-voltage charge or discharge circuit on an active program, taken through design review with analysis and bench data.
- Deliver a tested, released board revision with a written test report, and propose design standards for high-voltage safety architecture
What you’ll do:
- Design high-voltage architecture for warhead electronics, including charging circuits, energy storage, and controlled discharge and bleed-down.
- Design the safety architecture around high-voltage stages: isolation, interlocks, safe discharge paths, and protection against inadvertent function.
- Take designs from schematic and component selection through PCB layout review, prototype bring-up, and bench verification.
- Run analysis on margins, derating, creepage and clearance, and transient behavior, and document assumptions and results.
- Build and run bench and range tests with technicians and the test team, and turn the data into design changes.
- Write test procedures, test reports, and design records, and support safety reviews with the fuze safety lead.
Required Qualifications:
- RBS in Electrical or Electronics Engineering. Military experience is welcome but does not substitute for the degree.
- Hands-on design experience with high-voltage circuits, including charge and discharge circuits.
- Experience designing safety architecture for high-energy or safety-critical electronics.
- Schematic capture and PCB layout review in Altium, KiCad, or a comparable tool.
- Hands-on at the bench: comfortable with oscilloscopes, function generators, power supplies, DMMs, and soldering and rework.
- Clear technical writing; documentation will take roughly 30 to 40 percent of your time.
- Availability for extended hours and weekend work during test campaigns and program deadlines.
- U.S. person as defined by ITAR, able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with capacitive discharge firing sets, EFI or LEEFI firing circuits, or pulsed-power systems.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-1316, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-810.
- Circuit simulation in SPICE or LTspice.
- Personal electronics or engineering projects outside of work.
