Job summary

Dennis Group is seeking a mechanical engineering student for hands-on involvement in HVAC and utility design for food plants. You will perform load and energy balance calculations, develop P&IDs, and coordinate with cross-functional teams to deliver plant utility systems.

Travel to project sites is expected (about 25%), with emphasis on sanitary design and construction documentation. Ideal candidates are pursuing a BS in mechanical engineering with exposure to HVAC/Utilities, heat transfer,

Qualifications

• Sophomore, junior, or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• HVAC and/or Utilities design experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics
• Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar CAD tools is preferable.
• Understanding of energy, drainage, and line loss calculations
• Past mechanical experience in sanitary environments is a plus.
• Willing to travel to project sites – 25%
• GPA: 3.0 or above

Responsibilities

• Perform heating and cooling load calculations.
• Perform mass energy balance calculations.
• Perform drainage and line loss calculations.
• Perform flow test analysis.
• Sanitary design considerations (layouts, process exhaust).
• PID drafting and development of mechanical / utility drawings.
• Develop HVAC, plant utility, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
• Coordinate with internal and external team members.
• Create P&IDs, equipment layouts, and system details.
• Size and lay out ductwork and piping.
• Assist with BMS controls development with electrical/controls engineers.
• Prepare project documents and specifications.
• Research materials and best practices; support talent growth
