Actalent in Marion, IA is seeking a Mechanical Designer to develop innovative packaging and enclosures for electronic systems. You will create 3D models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks, collaborate across electrical, software, and manufacturing teams, and help drive products from concept through production.

The role emphasizes hands-on design, BOM control, and documentation, with a flexible schedule, potential four-day weeks, and on-site work in Marion.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in mechanical engineering required.
• 2+ years of mechanical product design experience.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools.
• Experience with PLM and document control systems.
• Knowledge of materials and fabrication for mechanical packaging.
• Understanding of electronics packaging and environmental considerations.
• GD&T knowledge.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Design conceptual mechanical solutions for new products, packaging and enclosures.
• Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
• Collaborate with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams.
• Create and maintain BOMs and documentation.
• Validate specifications, ECOs, and part documentation.
• Address thermal and vibration environmental challenges.
• Translate requirements into manufacturable designs meeting cost/quality targets.
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Support testing activities and fixture design.
• Perform other related duties.
