Job summary

Sterling Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Designer for heavy industrial piping design and plant layout. You will translate field sketches into finished 3D CAD/SolidWorks documents and coordinate with PMs and engineers to meet budgets and schedules.

The role requires strong proficiency in 3D AutoCAD and SolidWorks, plus experience with cloud scanning. ESOP participation is offered as a key incentive.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of heavy industrial piping design and plant layout experience.
• Proficiency in 3D AutoCAD and SolidWorks required.
• Experience with cloud scanning software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of multi-discipline project execution, construction methods, and local/industry compliance codes.
• Creating detailed design, process, and construction drawings.
• Reviewing engineering calculations, specialty item lists, and equipment data sheets.
• Adhering to project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Collaborating with cross-functional disciplines to resolve design conflicts.

Overview

The Mechanical Designer is responsible for heavy industrial piping design and plant layout. Key duties include translating field sketches into finished 3D CAD/Solidworks construction documents, evaluating plant scopes, managing schedules, and coordinating with project managers and engineers to meet strict project budgets.

Job Duties

• Knowledge of multi-discipline project execution, construction methods, and local/industry compliance codes.
• Creating detailed design, process, and construction drawings.
• Reviewing engineering calculations, specialty item lists, and equipment data sheets.
• Adhering to project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
• Collaborating with cross-functional disciplines (like structural or electrical teams) to resolve design conflicts

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Associate's Degree.
• Experience: 5 to 7 years of background working in heavy industrial piping design and plant layout.
• Software: Strong proficiency in 3D AutoCAD, Cloud Scanning Software, and Solidworks.
