Job description

Radiant is an El-Segundo, CA-based clean energy startup building a nuclear microreactor. A climate-friendly alternative to diesel generators, Radiant's Kaleidos 1MW microreactor will be the world's first portable, zero-emissions power source that works anywhere. We plan to test our development reactor by 2026 and if successful, it will be the first new commercial reactor design to achieve a fueled test in over 50 years. Radiant's goal is to bring one of the world's first factory-constructed microreactors to market. Our microreactor can bring power to remote parts of the world and provide backup power for life-saving applications in hospitals or disaster-relief scenarios.

Mechanical Designer

Radiant is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support critical path development as we near the first prototype test in 2026. You will create drawings with inputs from responsible engineers, serve as a GD&T expert for the team when checking drawings, and manage models/assemblies. This is an excellent opportunity to enable mechanical, fluids, nuclear, and structural engineers in building a highly reliable, portable nuclear microreactor. The ideal candidate has keen attention to detail, excellent CAD abilities, and can juggle multiple competing priorities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Create, review, and finalize 2D engineering drawings in NX for subsystems and components for a nuclear microreactor.
  • Manage large assemblies or assist with complex 3D model creation.
  • Work closely with engineers to resolve issues and document changes including requirements, process updates, assembly modifications, and more.
  • Create and update templates and drawing notes to stay up to date.
  • Manage queue of revision requests and prioritize with team to identify and solve design-related issues.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in engineering.
  • 1+ years working experience with drafting, modeling, and managing assemblies in CAD software.
  • 1+ years' experience in NX for CAD modeling and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with Teamcenter.
  • Proficient in GD&T concepts and application.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with metallic structures, welded structures, and fluid systems.
  • Experience designing and managing large CAD models and drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple drawings and models at a time effectively and with accuracy.
  • Strong ability to communicate well and frequently with interdisciplinary engineers across engineering and leadership.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with excellent ability to document processes and drawings and ensure up-to-date notes.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.

Employee Benefits for Eligible Employees:

  • Stock: Substantial incentive stock plan for all full time, salaried employees.
  • Medical: 100% up to base silver level plan for employee + 50% dependents, offers up to Platinum plans.
  • One Medical: Sponsored memberships for employees and their dependents.
  • Voluntary Life, Accident, Hospital, Critical Illness, Commuter and FSA are offered as employee contributed benefits.
  • Free snacks and drinks onsite.
  • Flexible PTO policy.
