Qualifications

  • Knowledge of switchgear, control panels and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 3D and SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain mechanical design layouts, production drawings and related documentation.
  • Develop detailed designs for weldments, skid assemblies, sheet metal components, cable routing, and power distribution.
  • Produce drawings from layouts, sketches, specifications and verbal instructions.
  • Apply ANSI and SLB drafting standards to ensure accuracy and documentation quality.
  • Support control panel, switchgear, generator controls, VFD and MCC projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve design issues.
  • Maintain status updates and deliver projects within established timelines.

Job description

SLB is seeking an experienced Mechanical CAD Designer to join our team in Katy, Texas. The successful candidate will support engineering and sustaining projects by creating and maintaining mechanical design layouts, production drawings, and technical documentation in accordance with ANSI and SLB standards. This role requires a strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems, manufacturing methods, and design best practices to deliver accurate, high-quality engineering documentation.

We are looking for a collaborative and detail-oriented professional who can translate engineering requirements into practical design solutions. This position provides the opportunity to work on complex power distribution and control system projects while partnering closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to support product development and execution.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain mechanical design layouts, production drawings, and related engineering documentation using approved CAD tools.
  • Develop detailed designs for weldments, skid assemblies, sheet metal components, cable routing, and power distribution systems.
  • Produce drawings from engineering layouts, sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions.
  • Apply ANSI and SLB drafting standards to ensure accuracy, consistency, and documentation quality.
  • Incorporate manufacturing requirements, tolerances, installation considerations, and serviceability into design solutions.
  • Support control panel, switchgear, generator control, VFD, and MCC-related projects.
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to resolve design issues and support project execution.
  • Maintain status updates and deliver assigned projects within established timelines.
Qualifications And Experience
  • Certificate or Associate Degree in CAD Design or a related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum 10 years of electro-mechanical design experience, preferably involving power distribution equipment, generator controls, VFDs, and MCCs.
  • Experience designing power systems and control panel layouts with knowledge of clearance, operation, and maintenance requirements.
  • Hands-on knowledge of electrical systems, including switchgear, control panels, and associated control systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD 3D and SolidWorks.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, drafting standards, and engineering documentation practices.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
