Job summary

MSTI is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Oak Ridge, TN to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages for gloveboxes, handling equipment, platforms, piping, furnaces, and related systems. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor is essential for modeling, drawing creation, and package development.

The role involves collaboration with project engineers, development of BOMs, and creation of datasheets, with a focus on safety, performance, and fabrication feasibility. U.S.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Expert proficiency with Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault preferred.
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed Autodesk Inventor models for component, subassembly, and main assemblies.
• Create detailed fabrication drawings and BOMs.
• Develop equipment datasheets and design record documents.
• Establish model structure and drawing tree architecture within Inventor.
• Collaborate with project engineers to meet performance, safety, and fabrication requirements.
• Provide checking/review support for design packages and drawings.
• Adhere to QA/QC procedures throughout design activities.

Summary

The Mechanical Designer works directly with small teams to produce 3D models, drawings, and fabrication packages of custom equipment. Typical equipment includes gloveboxes, material handling equipment, equipment access platforms, small-scale process piping & equipment, furnace systems, metal working systems (mills, lathes, rolling machines), and pressure vessels. This position requires advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor for 3D modeling, drawing creation, and fabrication package development.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed design and engineering activities including preparation of component, subassembly, and main assembly Autodesk Inventor models; creation of detailed fabrication drawing packages; evaluation and selection of purchased components; development of detailed Bills of Materials; and completion of equipment datasheets.
• Establish model structure and drawing tree architecture for distinct deliverables, maintaining file naming conventions and design file organization within Inventor.
• Collaborate with project engineers to develop technical solutions that meet performance, safety, and fabrication requirements.
• Provide checking and review support for design packages and fabrication drawings.
• Ensure all design activities are conducted following regimented quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Required Experience

• High school diploma required.
• Must demonstrate expert proficiency with Autodesk Inventor.
• Experience with Autodesk Vault preferred.
• Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proven capability in the design of custom equipment and/or containment systems, including development of fabrication drawings, equipment datasheets, and design record documents.
• Experience in the DOE and DOD market segments a plus; hands-on experience with the types of equipment listed above strongly preferred.
• Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.
• Must have the ability to acquire a security clearance.
