Job Description: Mechanical Designer – Industrial Automation
Experience: 3–5 Years
Required Skills: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mechanical Design, Assembly Drawings, Industrial Automation
Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment for industrial automation systems using SolidWorks and AutoCAD, ensuring designs meet functional, operational, and manufacturing requirements.
- Create detailed 2D engineering drawings, 3D models, assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) for automated machinery, robotic systems, material handling equipment, conveyors, fixtures, and custom automation solutions.
- Develop mechanical layouts and assembly designs for automated production equipment, including machine frames, tooling, brackets, mounting systems, pneumatic components, and mechanical integration of sensors, actuators, and other automation devices.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, manufacturing, and automation engineering teams to ensure proper integration of mechanical designs with PLC-controlled equipment, robotics, pneumatic systems, and other automated processes.
- Review engineering drawings and designs for dimensional accuracy, tolerances, clearances, and manufacturability. Incorporate design changes and resolve mechanical fitment or assembly issues during fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
- Support prototype development, equipment assembly, testing, and troubleshooting by working closely with shop-floor technicians, manufacturing engineers, and automation specialists.
- Maintain engineering documentation, design revisions, and CAD files while ensuring compliance with project specifications, applicable engineering standards, and internal design procedures.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably within industrial automation, machine building, or automated manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD, including 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and preparation of detailed assembly drawings.
- Hands-on experience designing automated machinery, custom equipment, production fixtures, conveyors, robotic workstations, or material handling systems.
