AAON, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer I to support HVAC equipment development with CAD-based models, drawings, and assemblies.
You will assist with product development, maintain design documentation, and help ensure accurate technical specifications. Requires an associate degree or technical training in drafting or mechanical technology and 1–2 years of design experience; HVAC/manufacturing experience is a plus.
The Mechanical Designer I is responsible for supporting the design and development of HVAC equipment through the creation of models, drawings, and assemblies using computer-aided design (CAD) tools. This role contributes to organizational objectives by assisting with product development, maintaining design documentation, and ensuring accuracy in technical specifications. The position works under guidance to complete design updates, support engineering teams, and contribute to product improvements. This role plays a key part in developing foundational technical skills while supporting manufacturing and engineering operations.
Requires an Associate degree or technical degree in drafting, design, mechanical technology, or a related field; 1–2 years of experience in design, drafting, or a related field, Or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Experience in HVAC or a manufacturing environment preferred.
Basic knowledge of mechanical design and drafting principles.
Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software and design tools.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
Ability to follow engineering standards and design guidelines.
Effective communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Strong knowledge of sheet metal and structural steel materials and their properties.
Ability to interpret technical instructions and apply basic design concepts.
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
Ability to navigate and work within manufacturing environments safely.
Perform work in both office and engineering design environments. Frequent use of computer systems and CAD tools for extended periods. Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments with varying temperatures, noise, and industrial conditions. Regular interaction with engineering teams, production staff, and leadership. Compliance with all company policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required when visiting production areas.
