Job summary

PTS Advance in Lenexa, KS is seeking a Mechanical Designer to develop piping layouts and 3D models for power plants and energy facilities. You will work on steam, boiler feed, water treatment, fuel handling, and related systems within large EPC projects.

The role involves designing P&IDs, check interferences in 3D, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to meet budget and schedule. Relocation and strong benefits are available for this onsite position.

Qualifications

  • 4–10 years of mechanical or piping design experience in power generation, industrial, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Proficiency with 3D modeling and P&ID development.
  • Ability to check constructability and lead design deliverables.
  • Strong communication and teamwork across multidisciplinary groups.

Responsibilities

  • Produce piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layout plans, sections, and 3D models for power plant systems.
  • Design mechanical systems including rotating equipment, HVAC, compressed air and gas systems, and service water systems.
  • Check design deliverables for codes, specs, and internal standards; ensure accuracy and constructability.

Mechanical Designer - Power Industry

Location: Remote

Experience Required: 4-10 years

Position Overview

We're a dynamic team of engineers and designers supporting a wide range of projects in the power sector. As a Mechanical Designer, you'll play a key role in developing detailed piping and mechanical equipment layouts and 3D models for power generation plants, carbon capture facilities, and other energy-related infrastructure.

You’ll contribute to the design of systems such as:

  • Steam cycle systems
  • Boiler feed and condensate systems
  • Water treatment
  • Fuel handling
  • Hydraulic and heat transfer systems
  • Conveying systems
  • Air and gas systems

We work on large-scale EPC projects and offer a diverse portfolio that includes gas-fired generation, power delivery, renewables, carbon capture, and environmental retrofits. Responsibilities
  • Produce piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layout plans, sections, and 3D models for various power plant systems.
  • Design mechanical systems including rotating equipment, HVAC, compressed air and gas systems, and service water systems.
  • Check design deliverables to ensure compliance with industry codes, project specifications, and internal standards.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and constructability.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers or interns.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
  • Identify and incorporate design changes as needed to meet budget and schedule goals.
  • Attend and contribute to project meetings.
  • Support project development and execution with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Qualifications
  • 4-10 years of experience in mechanical or piping design within the power generation, industrial, or oil & gas sectors.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design, or related engineering field preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar.
  • Experience checking for design interferences and constructability in a 3D environment.
  • Strong background in developing P&IDs, plot plans, and construction drawings.
  • Able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
