Job summary

Retech Systems in Buffalo, NY is seeking a Mechanical Designer to create and detail mechanical and electromechanical subassemblies for thermal processing of specialty materials.

You will perform 3D CAD modeling, 2D detailing, and collaborate with Project Managers to meet design requirements, schedules, and quality standards. Experience with vacuum vessels and GD&T is preferred; strong math and drafting skills are expected.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Develop design concepts, detailed designs, and fabrication drawings to meet contractual obligations.

• Check work prior to approval to ensure requirements are satisfied.
• Work with Project Engineer to solve problems during any project phase.
• Perform substantial 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailing for parts and assemblies.

Job description

Buffalo. Retech Systems. Mechanical Designer. $25 - $40/hour.

Under the direction of the Project Manager or Project Engineer, the Mechanical Designer designs and drafts mechanical and/or electromechanical subassemblies used in the thermal processing of specialty materials.

Job Responsibilities

• Works independently or collaboratively to develop design concepts, detailed designs, and detailed fabrication drawings that fulfill contractual obligations, project schedules, and company goals.
• Collaborates with and delegates to internal and external partners during the design, drafting, and manufacturing phase.
• Checks design and drafting work prior to Project Engineer approval to ensure requirements are satisfied.
• Works closely with the Project Engineer to solve problems that may arise during any phase of the project.
• Responsible for implementations and follow-up of his/her portion of the project after the Project Engineer establishes a course of action to solve a particular problem.
• Performs a substantial amount of 3D CAD modeling and 2D detailing work for individual parts and assemblies.

Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Working knowledge of design practices as relates to vacuum vessels or systems.
• Strong working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing concepts used in the fabrication and assembly of industrial assemblies, weldments, and detail parts.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, project requirements documents, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
• Strong working knowledge of CAD software e.g., Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, Mechanical Desktop, and similar CAD platforms.
• Working knowledge of Product Data Management software (e.g., Autodesk Vault, Solidworks PDM).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Education And Experience

• Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year College, but 4 years preferred.
• 2-5 years of experience in a Designer or Drafter role at minimum. More experience preferred.

Subassemblies typically operate within a controlled atmosphere or vacuum and consist of steel and stainless-steel fabrications in conjunction with other manufactured and purchased items.

Design materials may also include copper, brass, aluminum, plastic, and others.

Purchased items may include hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, electric actuators, sensors, and other components.
