Job summary

Durr CTS Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Designer responsible for creating 3D models in SolidWorks and supporting older drawings in AutoCAD Inventor.

The role includes developing concepts, sketches, and drawings for air pollution abatement equipment, including general arrangement and fabrication drawings. Responsibilities cover creating 2D/3D drawings, interpreting schematics, site measurements, and collaborating with engineering and estimating teams.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Design or related field preferred.
  • Experience designing sheet metal assemblies and air handling systems preferred.
  • Familiar with mechanical layout, detail drawings, and basic piping preferred.
  • Prior experience with PLM software (SAP, Oracle, etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Create drawings (2D and 3D) using CAD systems.
  • Interpret schematics to develop complete system designs.
  • Travel to customer sites for field measurements.
  • Communicate with engineering, estimating, contractors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Control and archive drawings and documents.
  • Diagnose and solve design problems.
  • Attend design review meetings.
  • Create Bills of Material and release packages to manufacturing.
  • Support manufacturing by answering questions and inspecting fabrication.

Job description

The Mechanical Designer will create new models in SolidWorks (3D) while using AutoCAD Inventor (3D) to work in older drawings and assemblies. Responsibilities include: generating and managing concepts, mechanical sketches, and drawings required effectively, fabricating, installing, and/or commissioning various types of air pollution abatement equipment. Designs include: general arrangement, complex assembly, layout detail, and fabrication drawings.

Your Tasks

Utilize a computer-aided design (CAD) system to create drawings (2D and 3D)

  • Interpret schematics to develop complete system designs
  • Travel to customer sites and participate in field measurements
  • Effectively communicate and interact with engineering and estimating departments, contractors, suppliers, and customers (limited customer contact)
  • Control and document the distribution and archiving of drawings and documents
  • Understand, diagnose, and solve real or potential design problems
  • Attend and contribute to design review meetings
  • Interpret mechanical drawings
  • Exercises critical judgment in creating designs that perform functionally and meet project specifications while considering key aspects of safety, cost, code compliance, ability to fabricate, ergonomics and aesthetics.
  • Find and implement catalog components into equipment designs.
  • Use company-developed sizing calculations and perform simple analysis calculations to verify design functionality.
  • Create Bills-of-Material from detailed drawings and release the engineering package to manufacturing.
  • Support manufacturing by answering any questions and regularly inspecting the fabrication until shipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Your Skills
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred
  • Experience in designing sheet metal assemblies and air handling systems preferred.
  • Familiar with mechanical layout, detail drawings, and basic piping preferred
  • Prior experience with PLM software (SAP, Oracle, etc.) preferred but not required
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Ability to perform basic engineering calculations
  • Strong skills in math and geometry
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks (2D and 3D) and AutoCAD (2D and 3D)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to understand and maintain project schedules
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Good communication skills with co-workers, suppliers, and customers
  • Able to work well independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to technically define problems and propose solutions
  • Adaptable to change in a learning environment
  • Self-starter capable of executing assigned tasks and solving problems in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary
