Job summary

RTX in Fairfield, CA is seeking an engineering intern/co-op to support design and qualification of aircraft systems. You will participate in the full design cycle, ensuring technical scope, schedule, and cost alignment while collaborating with multiple engineering teams.

Applicants must be pursuing a Mechanical or Aerospace degree and have CAD experience with SolidWorks, NX, UG, or Catia. Preference for machining, composites, and prior RTX experience.

• Experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, UG or Catia.

Responsibilities

• Support through all phases of design including bid/proposal, conceptual, preliminary, detailed design, qualification testing, and production rollout.
• Contribute to design and qualification of aircraft ejection seats, ensuring scope, budget, and schedule alignment.
• Use CAD tools to create and refine models/drawings and coordinate with drafting.
• Collaborate with test, product, system engineering, and program management teams.
• Assist with technical writing and customer-facing presentations and reports.
• Support bids and proposals preparation for program management.
• Assist systems engineering on requirements analysis and compliance planning.

What You Will Do

• Support through all phases of design including: bid and proposal, conceptual design, preliminary design, detailed design, qualification testing, new product introduction, and production implementation.
• Successfully execute on design/project tasks required to develop and qualify aircraft ejection seats by ensuring technical scope integrity and budget/schedule accuracy
• Utilize SolidWorks/UG/NX CAD software and facilitate the drafting department to produce standard, quality, and industry producible models/drawings
• Work as part of a cohesive team with test engineering, product engineering, system engineering, and program management
• Support program through technical writing presentations and reports for customer approval
• Support Program Management with any preparation of bids and proposals
• Support Systems Engineering on requirements analysis and the requirement compliance plan

Qualifications You Must Have

• Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering and actively enrolled through the completion of the internship/co-op session.
• Experience with 3D computer aided design (CAD) software such as SolidWorks, NX, UG (Unigraphics) and/or Catia

Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Previous experience or coursework with machining, sheet metal, composites, and fabric design
• Analytical skills including experience with physics, dynamics, and statics.
• Experience presenting design solutions to internal and external customers
• Prior RTX internship, co-op, or work experience
• Experience with mechanical principles to solve classical structural analysis solutions both inside and outside of finite element tools

The salary range for this role is 42,000 USD - 88,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
