Mechanical Design Engineering Intern (May-Dec 2027)
As a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern for the organization, you will support the design, development, testing, and improvement of innovative electromechanical products, test equipment, and manufacturing fixtures. You will work closely with experienced engineers, and gain hands-on experience throughout the product development lifecycle, including CAD design, prototyping, testing, data analysis, and technical documentation. This position offers an excellent opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while developing valuable industry experience.
Hours: Monday – Friday, 7AM – 3:45PM
In the role of Mechanical Design Engineering Intern:
- Build and evaluate electromechanical prototypes from engineering drawings and design concepts.
- Conduct prototype feasibility, validation, and performance testing to support product development decisions.
- Develop test plans, document results, and present findings to engineering team members.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to create and refine mechanical designs that meet customer and business requirements.
- Gain hands-on experience with real-world product development projects across different industries.
- Get exposure to the complete engineering design process from concept through validation.
- Get mentorship from experienced Mechanical and Electrical Engineers.
- Gain experience building, testing, and evaluating electromechanical prototypes.
- Have opportunities to develop technical communication and project management skills.
The skills you need to succeed:
- Previous product development experience is not required; a strong desire to learn and contribute is essential.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience through coursework, laboratories, personal projects, clubs, internships, or hobbies.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative and learn new skills.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic engineering environment.
Education & experience of a successful candidate:
- Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks or Creo.
- Experience with basic mechanical fabrication techniques, especially 3D printing.
- Exposure to engineering testing methods and data analysis.
- Participation in engineering clubs, design competitions, or personal technical projects.
- Declared engineering major with a minimum of 2 years completed course work.
- GPA: 3.0 minimum
