Job summary

Northrop Grumman Corp. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Department Manager 3 in Roy, UT to provide oversight of multiple programs, including Sentinel GBSD and ICBM Sustainment, and to lead technical and administrative functions for the design division.

The role requires active DoD Secret clearance with potential Top Secret clearance, U.S. citizenship, and a track record in aerospace/defense with CAM/EVMS experience. Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in STEM with 8 years experience; 6 years with MS.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with reinvestigation date within last 6 years.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain SAP.
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • At least 1 year of experience in aerospace or defense.
  • 3 years of experience as CAM and/or EVMS.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.

Responsibilities

  • Provide enabling support for all business areas within the SDS portfolio, including the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for ICBM, launch facilities, and associated infrastructure.
  • Analyze current release process, gaps, and resolve issues to ensure throughput of PDP releases at design review milestones.
  • Own and lead improvements across the design department for employee engagement, hiring, development, training, attraction, and retention of top talent.
  • Mentor, develop, and train section managers and the overall employee base.
  • Support proposal work, independent technical reviews, program stand‑up, audits, and special assignments as needed.
  • Create and manage high‑performing teams while providing technical, administrative, and management expertise in day‑to‑day activities required to execute complex engineering programs.

Position

Mechanical Design Engineering Department Manager 3 (Roy, UT). Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance required: Secret, with active DoD Secret clearance and potential Top Secret clearance.

  • Standard 9/80 work schedule (9‑hour days Monday through Thursday, alternating Friday off)
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of experience; 6 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance with a reinvestigation date in the last 6 years.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).
  • Ability to obtain Top Secret clearance.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in the aerospace or defense field.
  • 3 years of experience as CAM and/or EVMS.
  • Excellent communication, mentoring, interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with senior management, peers, and employees.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on ICBMs.
  • Understanding and proven experience leading sustainment technical scope of work.
  • Active TS clearance and program access.
  • Familiarity with Agile engineering and Jira.
  • Experience managing an engineering team.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a formal lead/management position.
  • Experience creating or growing new sections or departments.
  • Working knowledge across engineering disciplines.
  • General understanding of Northrop Grumman engineering processes.
  • Proven performance as an engineering leader in all phases of acquisition, design, integration, and execution.
  • Ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects and to demonstrate mentoring to engineers.
Salary Range

Primary level salary range: $151,500.00 – $227,300.00. Salary is determined by scope of responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
