Job summary

Venda Search is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to own the physical design of electrical equipment, including cabinets and enclosures, and to plan internal layouts for components. You will produce clear 3D models and 2D drawings for manufacturing, while collaborating with electrical engineers to meet design requirements.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in sheet metal products and equipment designed for manufacture, with proficiency in SolidWorks and BOM generation.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

I’m recruiting on behalf of an established manufacturer that develops customised electrical power and energy-management systems for industrial, telecommunications, medical, IT and mission-critical environments.

The business designs and builds equipment such as UPS systems, rectifiers, inverters, battery chargers and power-distribution solutions.

They are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who can take responsibility for the physical design of electrical equipment, including cabinets, enclosures and internal component layouts.

The role will involve:

• Designing sheet metal enclosures, panels, brackets, frames and supporting components
• Creating detailed 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks
• Planning the layout of electrical components inside cabinets and assemblies
• Working with electrical engineers to understand schematics and design requirements
• Producing Bills of Material, general arrangement drawings and assembly documentation
• Supporting fabrication partners and manufacturing teams through the build process
• Investigating and resolving design, assembly and production issues
• Contributing to new product development and improvements to existing designs
• Reviewing designs against UL, CSA and IEC standards
• Providing technical support to wider engineering, service and commercial teams when required

The ideal background:

• Three or more years of mechanical design experience
• Strong SolidWorks capability
• Hands-on experience designing sheet metal products, cabinets or electrical enclosures
• Experience working on equipment designed for manufacture
• Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and schematics
• Exposure to medium-voltage equipment, switchgear, transformers, power distribution or power-conversion products
• Experience producing manufacturing drawings, documentation and BOMs

Candidates from switchgear, UPS, power-distribution, electrical equipment or industrial manufacturing backgrounds would be particularly relevant but not necessary.
