POSITION OVERVIEW – Mechanical Design Engineer II - Design Liaison Engineer, Qualification Support

You'll help prove that the factories and suppliers can build gas turbine parts correctly, every time. You'll own the engineering side of qualifications for one area of the turbine, working with manufacturing and quality to define what must be tested and checked, and then following it through to completion. You'll also review hardware that doesn't meet requirements (called NCNs and SDRs) and decide what happens to it, and look for lean, lower-cost ways to qualify parts. It's a hands-on role that works with engineering, suppliers, factories, materials, quality, and sourcing, built around a safety-first, zero-defect mindset.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute the Gas Turbine qualification strategy through diligent and collaborative ownership of Design Liaison Engineering (DLE) qualifications
  • Work as a member of the qualification team to ensure proper application of design templates, processes, and quality management system (QMS) standards through the engineering definition and execution of robust qualification milestones
  • Foster and employ a safety-first, zero-defect mindset; always stop work when something is unsafe and don't start again until it is safe
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Global Supply Chain, Quality, NPI Design, Sourcing, Materials, Controlled Title Holders, and others
  • Apply strong leadership, teamwork, and communication skills to drive quality and continuous improvement in both internal factories and external suppliers
  • Design for producibility and lean flow to optimize manufacturing processes
  • Ensure clear, accurate documentation of each qualification step
  • Execute standard work for common issues, and find creative ways to create or improve processes, design methods, and manufacturing methods
  • Support cost reduction and factory built-in quality efforts
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant engineering experience

Preferred

  • Relevant experience designing gas turbine hardware or similar rotating machinery
  • Understanding of GD&T and ability to interpret engineering drawings and bills of materials
  • Experience working with manufacturing shops and processes, and well versed in lean manufacturing methods
  • Proficiency with Ansys, NX, and other analytical tools
  • Experience programming with Python, VBA, and/or other languages
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and build trust with team members in a cross‑functional global organization
  • Ability to manage and execute tasks on time with team members in global locations, and to rapidly shift day‑to‑day priorities based on emerging business needs
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability and willingness to challenge the status quo and deliver the best products
  • Humble, open‑minded, self‑motivated, and a continuous learner
MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related STEM field
