Job summary

Kearfott Corporation in Pine Brook, NJ seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer (Electronics Packaging) to design 3D/2D components and rugged electronics enclosures for aerospace/defense products.

You will collaborate with systems, electrical, test, and manufacturing teams, perform FEA stress analysis, and ensure design for manufacturability and IPC/WHMA compliance.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering required.
• Two+ years post-graduation experience in a related role.
• US Citizenship and ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.
• On-site work at Pine Brook, NJ facilities.
• Experience with SolidWorks CAD, FEA and IPC/WHMA specs.

Responsibilities

• Design 3D and 2D mechanical components using SolidWorks CAD.

Mechanical Design Engineer (Electronics Packaging)

Overview

The Mechanical Design Engineer (Electronics Packaging) is responsible for designing components, subassemblies and assemblies for Kearfott GND products to meet internal and customer technical requirements. Mechanical Design Engineer will work with and interface with the other disciplines of Engineering Department (Systems, Electrical, Test, Software) as well as Project Engineers, Program Managers, QA, Production and Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

Supports project team in the:

• Design 3D and 2D of mechanical components using SolidWorks CAD
• Design 3D and 2D electromechanical assemblies using SolidWorks CAD
• The design of ruggedized electronics and electronics enclosures
• Design for Manufacturing and Assembly
• Selection of materials and processes in accordance with technical specifications requirements
• Stress analysis using FEA techniques (Ansys, SolidWorks Simulation)
• Configuration management in SW PDM environment
• Works with cross functional engineering teams to ensure mechanical requirements are fully understood and implemented

Required Skills:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering required
• Requires two or more years of post-graduation experience in a related professional role
• Aerospace – Defense background preferred
• Exposure to manufacturing processes
• Experience with 3D printing technology
• Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD, Finite Element Analysis and Microsoft Office.
• Configuration management of engineering documentation
• Knowledge of GD&T
• Experience in mechanical engineering design of electronics packaging preferably in aerospace or defense industry
• Knowledge of IPC, WHMA, specifications for Printed Wiring Boards (PWBs), Circuit Card Assemblies (CCAs), wiring harnesses, and soldering
• Experience/proficiency in Altium is required
• SiliconExpert knowledge/experience is a plus
• Strong communication abilities and interpersonal skills
• Team player
• Must be a US Citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Security Clearance
• All work to be performed on site in our Pine Brook, NJ facilities

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $96,000 - $115,000 Annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
