Job summary

Surge Staffing is seeking a Mechanical Design / Product Engineer to join our engineering team in Alabama. You will design, develop, and improve custom trailers and transportation equipment, collaborating with Sales, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to translate client requirements into safe, manufacturable solutions.

The ideal candidate has hands-on mechanical design experience, proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred), and a solid understanding of heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5+ years of mechanical design experience in heavy equipment or trailers.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD and production drawings (SolidWorks preferred).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom trailer solutions (lowboys, flatbeds, multi-axle).
• Create 3D CAD models and production-ready 2D drawings (SolidWorks preferred).
• Perform weight distribution calculations and FEA to validate structural integrity.
• Develop BOMs and support ERP integration.
• Collaborate with manufacturing to resolve design challenges and improve manufacturability.
• Support prototype testing and product validation.
• Ensure designs meet DOT, FMVSS, SAE and related standards.
