Job summary

Mestek Machinery in Cedar Rapids, IA, seeks a mechanical design engineer responsible for new product development, existing product improvement, and sustaining engineering. You will design OEM systems and components, create CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing instructions, and source components.

The role requires strong CAD skills, experience with hydraulics, and the ability to work cross-functionally in a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Detailed understanding of modern mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
• Ability to interpret machine designs generated using 2-D CAD methods.
• Motivation to contribute to the improvement of engineering procedures.
• Experience working in or closely with machine shops is a plus.
• Strong knowledge and experience with 3D CAD software, Autodesk Inventor preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design OEM systems and components with CAD models and drawings.
• Generate BOMs and manufacturing instructions.
• Source mechanical components and RFQs to vendors.
• Adhere to and improve engineering processes within the organization.
• Take ownership and drive projects from concept to production.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and controls teams.
