Description

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) is seeking a mechanical design engineer to conceive, develop, prototype, and deploy modular data-collection systems at scale. These systems will be installed in various environments across the Amazon network and must be modular and pluggable to support multiple sensors and configurations.

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers, moving billions of units of inventory, employing tens of thousands of people, and ensuring timely delivery to customers. Our team collaborates with machine learning scientists, fulfillment associates, labeling teams, field engineering, maintenance personnel, and various customers worldwide.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems for mounting cameras, optics, sensors, wiring, computer systems, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience with industrial measurement, controls, and mechanical conveyance and safety systems is a plus.
  • Engage with customers ranging from executives to warehouse staff.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with quick delivery cycles.
  • Collaborate with complex hardware and software systems, focusing on customer needs and technical challenges.

About The Team

Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers Amazon’s global fulfillment network by inventing and delivering solutions that orchestrate processes, robots, machines, and people, blending the physical and virtual worlds for optimal customer service.

Quality

AFT’s Quality team leverages computer vision, machine learning, and other technologies to prevent, detect, and correct inventory issues impacting fulfillment and customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering or related fields
  • Experience with prototyping and implementation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys FEA tools
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
  • Experience designing complex mechanical products at volume
  • Understanding mechanical system limitations and sensor sensitivity
  • Familiarity with industrial camera systems and controls
  • Strong customer requirement analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop software for prototyping
  • Skills in designing and prototyping mechanical systems for sensors
