Job summary

iMPact Business Group is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to create high-performance mechanical components and enclosures for advanced machine vision lighting solutions. You’ll develop 3D CAD models, prototypes, and documentation, collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams.

The role emphasizes DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, material selection, sealing, and thermal design, with hands-on design for manufacturability and production release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of mechanical product design experience.
• Strong experience with SolidWorks; 3DExperience knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical enclosures, housings, brackets, and components for LED-based machine vision lighting products.
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks and 3DExperience.
• Apply DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, material selection, sealing, and thermal design.
• Create manufacturable, cost-effective designs meeting product performance requirements.
• Build, evaluate, and validate prototypes through testing and design improvements.
• Support product development from concept through production release.
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, test docs, and records.
• Partner with electrical, optical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams.
• Support supplier communication, changes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability, manufacturability, and performance.

Our customer is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop high-performance mechanical components, enclosures, and housings for advanced machine vision lighting solutions. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanical engineer who enjoys solving complex design challenges, developing innovative products, and bringing concepts through prototype, validation, and production.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, optical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams to create reliable, manufacturable designs that meet performance, cost, and quality requirements.

What You’ll Do

• Design mechanical enclosures, housings, brackets, and components for LED-based machine vision lighting products
• Develop detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks and 3DExperience
• Apply mechanical engineering principles including DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, material selection, sealing, and thermal design
• Create manufacturable, cost-effective designs that meet product performance requirements
• Build, evaluate, and validate prototypes through testing and design improvementsSupport product development activities from concept through production release
• Create and maintain CAD models, drawings, BOMs, specifications, test documentation, and engineering records
• Partner with electrical, optical, manufacturing, quality, and supplier teams throughout the product lifecycle
• Support supplier communication, compliance requirements, engineering changes, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Identify opportunities to improve product reliability, manufacturability, and performance

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical experience
• 4+ years of mechanical product design experience
• Strong experience with SolidWorks; knowledge of 3DExperience preferred
• Experience designing precision mechanical components, enclosures, electronics packaging, or similar products
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
• Experience with prototyping, validation testing, engineering drawings, BOMs, and documentation
• Knowledge of:
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
• Design for Assembly (DFA)
• Tolerance stack-up analysis
• Injection molded plastics
• Sealing and IP-rated designs
• Familiarity with ECR/ECO processes, APQP methodology, CE, UL, or RoHS requirements preferred
• Strong communication, problem-solving, collaboration, and supplier management skills
