Job summary

Rubbercraft is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join our Long Beach team, focusing on elastomeric components and precision mechanical systems for aerospace and defense. You will design, analyze, and document parts, supporting transition from development to production.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of mechanical design experience, with proficiency in SolidWorks or CATIA, and knowledge of AS9100/ISO9001 standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop elastomeric components, seals, and mechanical assemblies for aerospace and defense applications under general supervision.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks and/or CATIA within 3DX PLM (ENOVIA).
• Assist in the design and development of process fixtures, test fixtures, and tooling concepts, including additive manufacturing applications.
• Perform basic engineering calculations and support preliminary FEA analysis activities.
• Apply design for manufacturability (DFM) principles to improve product performance, manufacturability, and cost-efficiency.
• Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, specifications, test plans, technical reports, and material documentation.
• Support compliance activities related to AS9100, ISO 9001, FAA, MIL-SPEC, and customer requirements.
• Maintain engineering records, BOMs, and revision-controlled documentation within PLM systems.
• Support Configuration Control Board (CCB) and engineering change processes assigned.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Lab teams to support transition from development to production.
• Support prototype builds, product testing, and validation activities.
• Support troubleshooting and corrective action activities related to manufacturing or product performance issues.
• Support engineering process improvements and standardization efforts.
• Research materials, manufacturing methods, and emerging technologies relevant to elastomeric products and sealing systems.
• Continue developing technical expertise in aerospace sealing technologies, elastomers, polymers, and manufacturing processes.

Mechanical Design Engineer II (Mid-Level)

Rubbercraftis seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer level II to join our organization and support the design, development, and testing of elastomeric components and precision mechanical systems. This role is intended for engineers who have developed foundational engineering skills and are capable of executing design activities with moderate independence while collaborating across cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will support engineering programs from concept through production, applying mechanical design principles, manufacturing knowledge, and engineering processes to deliver reliable and manufacturable sealing solutions for demanding environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As a Design Engineer II, you will contribute to the development and optimization of elastomeric products and mechanical systems while expanding your technical capability and engineering ownership. This role requires collaboration with manufacturing, quality, laboratory, and program teams to support product development and production readiness.

1. Mechanical Design & Development

• Design and develop elastomeric components, seals, and mechanical assemblies for aerospace and defense applications under general supervision.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks and/or CATIA within 3DX PLM (ENOVIA).
• Assist in the design and development of process fixtures, test fixtures, and tooling concepts, including additive manufacturing applications.

Education and/or Experience

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering field.
• Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering.

Preferred

• Experience in aerospace, defense, or high-performance industrial manufacturing environments.
• Experience with elastomeric materials, polymer systems, or sealing technologies.
• Internship or prior hands-on experience supporting manufacturing or testing environments.

Skills / Qualifications

1. Technical Skills

Required

• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks and/or CATIA)
• Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), and Mechanical drawings.
• Familiarity with DFMEA/PFMEA, Root cause analysis and Mechanical testing and validation.
• Basic understanding of Rubber molding, Extrusion processes, Additive manufacturing and Design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Exposure to PLM /ERP systems such as 3DX/ENOVIA and Epicor.

Preferred

• Experience with aerospace materials, elastomers, polymers, or composites.

• Experience supporting prototype development and validation testing.
• Exposure to FEA tools or analysis methods.
