Enviros is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in the United States to lead and manage commissioning projects from award through acceptance. You will create performance test procedures for facility HVAC and electrical systems, ensure project quality, and prepare professional deliverables.

The role requires 10–15 years of experience designing Plumbing & HVAC systems, a Mechanical Engineering degree, and PE licensure.

Job description

The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for leading and managing design and commissioning projects, creating functional performance test procedures for HVAC and electrical systems, ensuring technical quality and accuracy of projects, preparing clear and concise deliverables, providing leadership for multiple projects, conducting peer reviews, performing energy calculations, managing field inspections and equipment startups, troubleshooting faulty systems, maintaining positive professional relationships, and ensuring compliance with engineering and construction codes.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, forecast activities, and execute active commissioning projects from award through acceptance.
• Create functional performance test procedures for all types of facility HVAC and electrical systems. These include building automation, HVAC, heating, hot water, lighting, steam, renewable energy systems, associated controls and other systems and equipment required to be commissioned using our library and software tools.
• Responsible for the technical quality, accuracy, and managerial aspects of Cx projects.
• Prepare clear and concise deliverable, including technical reports, Cx reports, meeting minutes, system manuals, and assessments, that convey technical information suitable for both layman and technical audiences.
• Provide leadership for multiple projects simultaneously while directing junior staff, as well as field oversight of construction and commissioning activities.
• Conduct Peer Review of Construction Documents mechanical and plumbing systems
• Perform energy calculations for energy conservation measures including energy cost savings and estimating costs to implement recommendation and determine return of investment for capital expenditures.
• Manage field inspections, lead commissioning meetings, oversee equipment startups, and test and balance activities as well as field functional performance testing to verify and tune systems for optimum performance.
• Effectively document commissioning procedures, assumptions, and results.
• Limited design of HVAC systems from concept through construction. Mechanical Systems are generally less than $2,000,000 in construction costs.
• Develop project specifications to guide the inclusion of commissioning into a project.
• Perform design review of project documents for conformance to design requirements and LEED, Green Globes, and other sustainability programs.
• Review engineering drawings and specifications for engineering accuracy and performance. Provide recommendations and feedback regarding improving the design, optimizing system performance, proper equipment selection, testing requirements, and operations and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot faulty systems, perform the technical analysis necessary to interpret system data, and provide recommendations for corrective action.
• Assess, document, and write engineering reports for onsite observations, testing processes and checklists.
• Effectively document commissioning procedures, assumptions, and results.
• Responsible for the technical quality, accuracy, and managerial aspects of Cx projects.
• Create and maintain positive professional working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and contractors.
• Maintain familiarity with appropriate engineering and construction codes to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
• Work with data analytics to support client ongoing commissioning priorities.
• Timely completion of projects, time, and expenses in Unanet.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum 10-15 years of experience in designing Plumbing & HVAC systems
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering and a Professional Engineer license is required.
• Preferred Minimum 5 years Commissioning experience.
