Job description

We are seeking a hands‑on and detail‑oriented mechanical engineer to contribute to the design, prototyping, verification, and pilot fabrication of systems and subsystems for a robotic rehabilitation medical device currently transitioning from active R&D into pilot production and commercialization. This role works closely with controls, electrical, and production teams to deliver hardware that meets clinical, safety, and manufacturing requirements. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in mechanism design and parametric CAD, experience building and testing hardware beyond just designing it, and the ability to manage subsystem documentation and engineering deliverables in a structured development environment.

Mechanical Design Engineer
Role Overview

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and iterate mechanical concepts, mechanisms, and subsystems across product generations.
  • Create CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and engineering documentation for prototype and pilot components.
  • Build and evaluate prototypes at the subsystem and system levels; execute mechanical verification test protocols and document results.
  • Prepare and maintain pilot fabrication documentation: assembly instructions, BOMs, and process documentation.
  • Support user testing and pilot study activities, including test article preparation and follow‑up design analysis.
  • Implement design improvements based on user, clinician, and internal feedback across prototype and pilot phases.
  • Contribute to design‑for‑manufacturing and assembly (DFM/DFMA) optimization during commercialization preparation.
  • Maintain assigned subsystem documentation and collaborate with controls and electrical engineering on system‑level integration.
  • Support pilot device installations and clinical training sessions; occasional travel required (<10%).
Candidate Profile
  • Self‑starter: tackles complex problems without hand‑holding.
  • Comfortable with complexity: large, messy projects don’t rattle you.
  • High drive: moves fast and shows real progress every week.
  • Team player: shares knowledge, listens, and helps others win.
  • Quality‑focused: won’t call it done until the work is rock‑solid.
  • Learns on the fly: masters new tools, standards, and protocols quickly.
  • Mission‑minded: motivated by restoring mobility for patients.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a parametric 3D CAD tool (Onshape preferred; SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar acceptable).
  • Experience with mechanism design and analysis (linkages, actuated systems, or similar).
  • Hands‑on prototyping and hardware build experience; comfortable building and testing, not only designing.
  • 0-2 years of professional experience in a mechanical engineering role; recent graduates with strong internship or project portfolios encouraged to apply.
  • Authorization to work in the USA (we do not sponsor H1B).
  • Fluent in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with DFM/DFMA principles and manufacturing constraint awareness.
  • Experience creating engineering documentation (detailed drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions).
  • Exposure to a regulated development environment (medical device, aerospace, or similar).
  • Experience with Onshape specifically.
