Mechanical Engineering Designer
The Mechanical Engineering Designer is responsible for the design and documentation of all mechanical systems related to code compliant building design, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection. The role coordinates with other architects, interior designers, and engineering team members to deliver well‑coordinated, holistically sound building system documents for cleanroom environments.
The designer will work with the engineering team to organize and deliver design packages for multiple projects on time and in accordance with client expectations.
Project Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain mechanical engineering documentation standards with other engineering team members.
- Create and maintain an electrical specification and detail library.
- Lead the project mechanical design and coordination process from schematic concept through construction.
- Interface with clients to determine the best electrical design options based on their needs.
- Work with local utility companies to complete mechanical service applications for water and natural gas.
- Perform on‑site surveys of existing mechanical systems to define the current state of building operations and provide recommendations for upgrades and basic code compliance.
- Complete all project‑related electrical systems design calculations.
- Create 2D and/or 3D construction documentation of building systems such as floor plans, flow diagrams, details, and equipment schedules.
- Conduct equipment selections for major building equipment related to heating, cooling, ventilation, and distribution systems.
- Conduct coordination sessions with MEP engineers, structural engineers, site/civil engineers, architects, and other project designers to ensure coordination between all system components.
- Review all mechanical engineering documents at milestones to ensure client scope and inter‑discipline coordination is achieved.
- Confirm project code compliance with all national and local codes, including ICC and NFPA.
- Confirm cleanroom‑compliant design with all applicable industry standards.
- Attend meetings as needed to review project progress.
- Review RFIs and equipment submittals to ensure accuracy with engineering design documents.
- Visit active construction sites to perform walkthroughs and develop punch lists.
Minimum Requirements
- Engineering degree from an ABET‑accredited school.
- 0-7 years of electrical design experience.
- CAD and Revit drafting experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both virtually and in person.
- Willingness to travel around the U.S. when required.
- Work in a hybrid remote and in‑office setting.
- Desire to be part of a fast‑paced, expanding design team.
